What’s a Bikepacking Summit?
Our bikepacking summits are all about building a vibrant community, exploring the stunning local landscapes, and making bikepacking accessible to everyone. We’re passionate about creating a grassroots event that brings together bikepackers from diverse backgrounds and experience levels. Whether you’re a newbie eager to learn or a pro looking to connect with fellow enthusiasts, we’ve got something for you. Our carefully planned rides and activities are designed to help you discover and connect with these beautiful landscapes in a meaningful way.
We’ll be posted up at a beautiful basecamp at Rustic Creek Ranch Friday and Saturday, surrounded by all the trails of the Buffalo Creek area. The days will be filled with workshops, rides, inspiring speakers, and an expo and makers mart — and plenty of time to get to know other each other. And then on Sunday we’ll take off for overnight trips of various levels.
At Bikepacking Roots, we believe in giving back to the trails and landscapes we love. Let’s come together to ride and also contribute to the preservation of these incredible landscapes and support of the rural communities that we ride through, ensuring they remain thriving and accessible for future generations.
The Rocky Mountain summit is hosted by Bikepacking Roots in partnership with our local Regional Stewards who are excited to share their backyards and some of their favorite trails with you!

FAQs
We’ll add more FAQs here as we get closer to the event! Be on the lookout for more info.
I've never bikepacked before and am nervous about attending. Will this be appropriate for folks new to bikepacking?
Absolutely. This is a great event for people who are curious about bikepacking, and we will have rides and overnights of various distances. All day rides and overnights are non-competitive and no-drop. All rides will have ride leaders at the front helping show the way, and sweeps riding at the back meaning no one will be left behind or riding by themselves. While all riders are expected to carry their own gear, have bikes in good working order, and carry repair kits, we’ll have plenty of volunteers on hand to help out should you have a mechanical. And we’ll aim to leave plenty of time for rest and snack breaks! Check out the distance and elevations on the overnight ride overviews above to see how they compare to what you’ve ridden before, and reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns!
What type of bike do I need?
If you are planning to stick to the shortest overnight, that will be will mostly be on gravel roads, so we recommend a minimum of 40mm tires. If you are planning to join the mountain bike overnights, a mountain bike with wider tires are advisable for navigating diverse surfaces. A mountain bike is reccomended for many of the trails
I don’t have any bikepacking bags? Can I still join an overnight trip?
We have a number of bikepacking bags that we can lend out to participants to try them out for the overnight trips. We will try our best to accommodate everyone, and you can get pretty creative to get out there for just a night! Please indicate on your registration form if you may need to borrow gear and we will follow-up.
Do we need to reserve/pay for a campsite?
Nope! Buying a ticket includes overnight camping at Rustic Creek Ranch Friday and Saturday night. For overnights Sunday night, some of our rides will end at a campground, where we have a large group site reserved. Others will be going to designated dispersed camping spots. We don’t anticipate any troubles obtaining our desired dispersed camping locations on a Sunday evening, but we will have contingency plans in place as well (that is part of bikepacking, right!).
I can’t make it for all 4 days, can I still come?
Yes, definitely. While we would love to host you for the full weekend. Saturday will be a great day to come for a mix of riding, an Expo, Stoked Spoke Stories, and some social activities. Or perhaps you are most interested in joining for an overnight from Sunday – Monday.
What if I don't know exactly how long I can attend for yet?
That is ok, you’re welcome to come to the summit anytime Friday or Saturday! For the overnights Sunday to Monday, we have a limited number of campsite spots available, so we recommend committing to a campout when you purchase your ticket.
What are the routes?
The routes will be shared closer to the event, but you can see an overview of the overnight routes in the schedule above.
How do I get there?
Our basecamp for Friday through Sunday is at Rustic Creek Ranch in Bailey, CO in the Buffalo Creek area. Specific directions to the ranch will be shared with registrants prior to the event.
Bike: If you are feeling adventurous, ride your bike! Spencer McCullough is leading a group ride to the summit leaving Denver Friday morning. Let us know if you want to join a group ride in your registration.
Driving: If you are driving, we encourage carpooling! Parking is available at Rustic Creek Ranch. If you’re going on an overnight Sunday – Monday, you can leave your car at Rustic Creek Ranch.
What is the plan for food for the weekend?
- An oatmeal breakfast bar is being provided by Embark Maple for Saturday and Sunday morning, included in your ticket. Saturday night we’ll have a cook along dinner hosted by Yeehaw Giddyup. A list of ingredients will be provided ahead of time to participate. For all other meals, while at the summit, please bring your own food.
- If you are going on an overnight trip, please bring whatever food you will need for Sunday to Monday.
What facilities are available at the summit? Bathrooms?
While at Rustic Creek Ranch Friday though Sunday morning, we’ll have porta potties available. This is a rustic backcountry campground, and no running water is available. We’ll have a limited amount of water for those biking in, but if you’re driving in please plan to bring enough water for yourself.
If you’re participating in an overnight trip Sunday to Monday, you have the option to join a trip that goes to a group campsite with
