Sandy SoCal Solstice Campout
December 20 - December 22
Free
This event is hosted by Bikepacking Roots Regional Steward Emily Elliott as part of our Winter Solstice Campout Series
Dates: December 20-22, 2024
Location: Arroyo Tapiado, Anza Borrego Desert State Park, San Diego County, CA (32°55’06.2″N 116°10’58.8″W)
Join us for a free and fun community car-campout in the Anza Borrego State Park. Our primitive/dispersed campsite in Arroyo Tapiado is a favorite of the SoCal bikepacking community. Campers can join Friday evening or Saturday morning. Saturday features a group day ride of Tres Arroyos, a 19 mile, 835’ loop entirely of sandy arroyos. Sunday features an optional “explore” group ride (12 miles, ~500’) up Vallecito wash and a sandy double track to Palm Spring and a tamarisk oasis.
It’s a chance to:
Explore fascinating geological features like mud caves and the Diablo Drop Off.
Make new bikepacking friends and build community.
Expand or develop your desert riding skills.
Connect with Bikepacking Roots volunteers.
Who should attend:
This event is for intermediate level riders. The atmosphere will be supportive and non-competitive, with the goal of sharing mountain biking and creating a safe and inclusive opportunity to ride in the desert. You bring your bike, gear, 100% of your food and water, and self-sufficient riding skills and we’ll bring the community and camaraderie.
Here is a suggested packing list. This is not a bikepacking trip, but a car-camp and day ride trip, so no need to carry your gear on your bike. But if you are new to bikepacking there will be plenty of experienced bikepackers around to learn from.
After you register, you’ll receive an email with additional details.
