Catskills Cycling and Camping Tour 6 Days, 5 Nights

July 12 @ 12:00 am - July 17 @ 12:00 am
$495

This event is hosted by BIkepacking Roots Community Steward Tyler Burton.

Join Lichen Bike Tours on our biggest cycling and camping adventure of the year
We will be cycling from sea level in Hudson, NY as far as the mellow waters of the Willowemoc and Beaverkill creeks. Daily average cycling is 35 miles and 2300ft climbing, and we do that for 6 days in a row. The surfaces are 95% paved, with a long, flat section of rough gravel at the start of Day 3. The route is very hilly, but we will all walk together during the most challenging climbs.

You can have a great time on your classic touring bike with narrow tires and racks/panniers, and you could also ride 2 inch tires and a bikepacking setup. Outdoors camping in scenic forests, several days with swimming spots, and plentiful stops for food and refreshments make this trip the ideal way to enjoy traveling by bicycle in the Catskill Mountains.

Our riding will be in two 2-4hr chunks with about 6-8hrs of moving time each day, and the ride plan is to arrive at camp with plenty of daylight for everyone to do what they feel in the late afternoons and evenings. For the anglers, those 2 creeks are world-famous dry fly fishing sites and maybe you find some room on your bike for that equipment. Wildlife and night sky photographers will have as many opportunities as the hikers to enjoy their hobby. For those seeking more unpaved roads and mountain bike trails, your guide will set you up with optional side quests from the campsites.

This event is part of Bikepacking Root’s Community Event Calendar, where we share bikepacking events across the US and Canada. Bikepacking Roots is not involved in the hosting of this event unless otherwise noted. Please reach out to the organizer for more information.
