This year we have two routes available\, a 210 +- route and the new Kings Road XL route\, 333 miles. The ride will roll out from the Jena Boat Ramp and End on the Atlantic coast\, down by the beach\, to the right of the Flagler Beach Pier. \nThe group start will be draft-legal and will challenge riders to complete the course as quickly as possible\, although riders are free to complete the challenge without the constraints of cut-offs or time limits. \nThis is a self-supported ride; there are no sag wagons\, and no support vehicles are allowed\, except being able to draft riders must maintain this self-supported status throughout the event. \nYour registration of 80$ includes the route information\, a trail guide\, a resource waypoint file\, one souvenir\, and access to both routes. Routes will be released August 15th\, and once the information is sent\, no refunds or transfers will be available. Tracking will be provided by Trackleaders\, and it is at that time that riders will choose which route they want to ride. There are only two categories available\, solo and team. It is at the time of Trackleaders registration that you would choose the team option if that’s how you decided to tackle the route. \nThere will be a shuttle available; spots are limited to the first 30 folks who register for this option. The shuttle will pick up riders in Flagler Beach at noon on October 24th and transport riders to Steinhatchee. The designated parking spot for shuttle riders is approximately 1 mile from the finish line. The price of the shuttle is 130$\, add that ticket option to your cart to secure your spot. Shuttle spots are refundable as long as it’s canceled 3 weeks before the event start date. \nSince there is no cut-off time\, riders can choose to ride the route as fast as they want or tour it at their leisure. This Southern California adventure offers a mix of sand\, mountains\, and stunning landscapes\, making it a prime weekend getaway. The route features diverse terrain\, delicious Mexican food\, a communal group camp\, the Culp Valley Cultural Preserve\, the Anza Borrego Desert State Park\, and the renowned Dark Sky Community. \nParticipants are encouraged to make a suggested $20 donation to help offset the campground reservation fee\, firewood\, and camp snacks. Emily Elliott is the contact person for the event and can be reached at emilyelliott43@gmail.com. \nThe Route and Experience \nThe Ranchita Rambler Grand Depart is not a race but rather a relaxed weekend of bikepacking with friends. Riders will start and camp together but are encouraged to ride at their own pace and navigate the route independently. The journey begins and ends in Ranchita\, CA\, at the Ranchita Bodega. \nDay one kicks off with some early climbs through the Ranchita foothills\, followed by a thrilling sandy descent down Grapevine Canyon into the Anza Borrego Desert. Riders will then tackle a paved section with a narrow shoulder\, leading to the scenic Cactus Valley double track. The route also passes the famous Borrego Springs metal sculptures\, adding a cultural touch to the adventure. \nThe first night’s campsite will be at Borrego Palm Canyon Campground\, where riders can enjoy amenities like flush toilets and coin-operated hot showers while gazing at the breathtaking night sky. Along the way\, there are opportunities to refuel with quintessential California burritos in the town of Borrego Springs. \nOn day two\, riders can either grab breakfast in camp or start their ascent up the iconic Montezuma Valley Road\, also known as the “Glass Elevator” for its panoramic views of the desert floor. The climb\, with its 3\,300-foot elevation gain\, is challenging\, but the vistas are worth the effort. The route then leads through the Culp Valley Cultural Preserve\, offering double track trails and educational sites with views extending to the Salton Sea. For those preferring a less sandy option\, the Culp Valley segment can be bypassed by staying on the pavement. \nThe ride concludes back in Ranchita. Riders should note that\, as of July 2024\, the Ranchita Bodega is not operational\, so it’s wise to stash post-ride snacks in your car. In the summer of 2022 Dave was attempting a back to back ride of the 5 most recent Mid South 100 courses. Josh McCullock joined Dave for a bit of one of those rides and at some point in exhausted delirium\, Dave mentioned linking together the outer perimeter of all the historical Mid South courses. The idea was planted\, and over the next 2 years The Mid South didn’t let it go. \nWith help from Dr. Seth Wood and our friends at Ride with GPS\, the course was cobbled together. All that was left was to ground truth the route. That process resulted in a 5 part documentary series you can watch below. \nOnce the route was finessed\, we invited the community to come ride it! \nThe inaugural grand depart of this route happened on Sept 18th 2024\, with the estimated completion coinciding with The Mid South 2025 registration party. The morning held great anticipation with 140 riders aboard their rigs for takeoff. The Oklahoma landscape held a bevy of challenges for these riders including high temps of 108 degrees\, stifling humidity and even a deadly overnight thunder storm. \nIn the end\, only 40 riders completed the 300 mile route earning them a hallowed place in the lore of Mega Mid South. This route is a nearly flat\, gravel trail.  \nDistance to campsite is 5-9 miles out\, depending on site availability. Primitive campsite (no bathroom)\, but supply stop for food and drinks at about 6.5 miles from the trailhead (1-2 miles from the campsite).   \n  \nOn Day 1\, the group will meet at the Alston Trailhead and ride together to the campsite\, where they will set up camp. Then\, anyone interested in continuing to ride will finish the rest of the trail (an additional 11ish miles). For the rest of the day\, we will hang out at the campsite and may ride back and forth to Wilson’s for snacks and dinner. Plan is to stop at Wilson’s gas station to purchase dinner (hamburgers\, bbq sandwiches) and snacks/ drinks for the night; however\, if you have significant dietary restrictions\, please pack your own items that fit your needs. Day 2\, after breakfast and coffee\, the group will break down camp\, help transport any trash to dumpsters at Wilson’s\, then ride 5 miles back to the trail head.  \n  \nThis is a Women/Trans/Femme/Non-Binary bikepacking trip. This is a favorite trip from the Rides with Friends series.\n\nThe route\, depending on any variations the group may choose\, is about 60 miles with about 500′ of climbing over two days.\nWe cross the Black Rock Desert Playa to Double Hot Springs\, an important stop along the California Emigrant Trail.\nThen we make our way along the base of the Black Rock Range to climb to the micro-playas above Black Rock Point.\nThis hanging playa has the magical quality of making you feel like you are in the most remote place possible. We’re gonna do an out-and-back on the AZT! This will be a mountain biking trip\, so we recommend you use a hardtail or full suspension mountain bike with 2.3 tires or bigger for comfort and grip. \nThis trip does have some challenges to it (challenging singletrack terrain riding\, sandy loose terrain\, rocks\, steep climbs\, some hike-a-bike) and no resupplies except for water at Kentucky Camp. \nThe terrain is almost all singletrack with a short section of Gravel/paved Roads. \nWe’ll be riding mostly uphill the first day (it will be a long\, difficult day and expect some hike-a-bike. The 2nd day will be trending downhill with some fun riding back to the cars\, making the first day worth it! Beyond the beautiful riding\, we plan to check out Kentucky camp as well as the Gin House cabin if time permits. \nWe will be self-supported and do not have plans for a sag wagon to join us. There will not be water at camp; however\, there is water and restrooms available at Kentucky Camp\, 2-3 miles from our expected camping spot\, and we will stop there on the way out in the morning as well. \nWe will be passing near the borderlands. This is an area of human migration\, and we recommend reading this article from Sarah Swallow’s Sky Islands page and scrolling down to the “Borders and Human Migration” section\, and reading through the 3 articles and familiarizing yourselves. Wild\, unpredictable\, and unforgiving — this is where legends are made. \nThe third stage of the Texas Showdown Series and the crown jewel of the Texas Showdown Triple Crown.  Set in the Big Bend region of Texas\, this event promises to test every ounce of grit\, skill\, and determination. \nThis is mountain desert country — wild\, remote\, and raw. The terrain is rugged\, the weather unpredictable\, and resources are scarce. Nearly everything in the desert either bites\, pinches\, stings\, or grabs. It starts with a paved rollout from Terlingua before plunging straight into the wilds of Big Bend Ranch State Park. Riders will grind up gravel park roads\, hike through rugged arroyos\, and battle through stretches of singletrack where “rideable” depends on your skill\, stamina\, and stubbornness. \nHighlights: \n\nMarfa (Mile ~200): A quirky West Texas art town\, home of the mysterious “Marfa Lights” and the famous Prada “storefront.” A perfect place to refuel and rest.\nPinto Canyon: One of the most dramatic landscapes in Texas. A twisting\, jaw-dropping descent through volcanic cliffs. Sunrise or sunset here is unforgettable.\nRio Grande Stretch: Long paved miles along the border\, with Mexico just across the river. It is a one-of-a-kind-coast-to-coast bikepacking/Ultra Running challenge\, the first of its kind in the United States. \nThere will be no cue sheets provided for this route\, only a GPX file and instructions on how to use the said file. Riders/Runners are required to use a GPS; Garmin Etrex 20 or better is recommended. \nThe route is 300 miles of mixed terrain: Singletrack\, forest road\, paved roads\, bike trails\, double track\, and grassy abandoned easements. This is an at-your-own-risk personal challenge that each rider voluntarily wants to engage in. There is merely a recommended start time for the route\, but riders/runners can start at any time by coordinating their official start times with the event organizer beforehand. \nHonoring the tradition of the ferry crossing\, a boat ride will be available to shuttle riders across the river\, providing the option to take a 50-mile shortcut. This shuttle only runs on the 13th and before Sunset\, so riders wanting to ride the boat have to ride fast to complete the 120-mile journey. \nRoute information will be sent out on October 13th. Once the information is released\, there are no refunds available. \nTracking is established by using a Tracking device. Tracking devices are required for participation as we will be providing an online page to track riders’ progress. We will contact riders to discuss their options on how to be tracked for this event. \nThere will be a shuttle available; spots are limited to the first 30 folks who register for this option. The shuttle will pick up in Inglis\, Florida\, around noon on December 12th and transport riders to New Smyrna Beach. The designated parking spot for shuttle riders is approximately 5 miles from the finish line. The price of the shuttle is 130$; add that ticket option to your cart to secure your spot. Shuttle spots are refundable as long as it’s canceled four weeks before the event start date. \nOn or close to October 13th\, participants will get a link to a Google Drive folder that will contain the guide information and an RWGPS event link that will contain the route. You must allow messages from karlos@singletracksamurai.com to receive this information. If not\, it will go to your spam folder. Route info is licensed per individual and must be downloaded from the Google Drive folder and opened with a compatible program to use and view. \nRules: \n1. You must complete the route under your own power. Once you set foot in a motor-powered vehicle\, you voluntarily withdraw from the challenge. There are exceptions made to this rule in cases of medical emergencies. If you are injured and need help\, get healthy\, and you can rejoin the course at your convenience. \n2. There is a no-drafting rule in effect. \n3. You must be able to carry yourself the length of the route safely. You can only obtain supplies from commercial establishments along or near the route. You cannot pre-arrange any kind of support or supplies\, and no SAG vehicles are allowed. \n4. There will be three checkpoints where you are required to provide photographic evidence for. Some checkpoints may require video documentation. To prove that you passed these areas\, you can either email your pics and videos to Nakedindian@singletracksamurai.com or post them on your Facebook or Instagram for me to see and verify. \n5. You can take as long as you need to complete the challenge; there is no time limit and no cut-offs. Every rider/RUNNER will participate in a mass start if they start with the group on the day of the event. \nYou make a 70$ minimum donation to participate in the event. In return for this donation\, you will receive the route file\, the trail guide\, the waypoint restock file\, and one souvenir. Whether you attend the event or not\, that is what your donation covers; there are NO REFUNDS after the route information is sent on October 13th. \nYour Donation does go a long way to keep me working on new routes and projects\, and maintaining the ever-evolving existing routes and future projects. With over 25\,000 miles of dirt and gravel roads and an extensive network of state and federal public lands to explore\, the state is a gem on the East Coast for bikepacking opportunities. Bikepacking Roots is connected with some of the best route creators from the region who have been working on exciting projects in recent years. This episode will feature two talented regional route creators and highlight two new bikepacking destinations in the Keystone State: \n\nDavid Landis\, founder of Village to Village Trails and perhaps best known regionally for creating the TransVirginia Bikepacking Route\, has been busy creating a growing list of new route projects across Pennsylvania and West Virginia.\nHelena Kotala is an avid cartographer and route creator who works for Pennsylvania Environmental Council\, a statewide organization that has hosted a statewide Gravel Summit for the past 3 years.\n\nDuring this webinar\, we will deep dive into the creation of two exciting projects: \nEndless Mountains Gravel Bikepacking Loops: Three bikepacking route options – 110\, 250 or 430 miles take cyclists through four scenic counties of Northeastern PA. The Endless Mountains Heritage Region is home to countless back country dirt roads\, quaint and historic downtowns\, stunning scenic overlooks\, museums and historical societies\, breweries and wineries\, award-winning trails\, state and county parks\, picturesque creeks and streams\, and the majestic Susquehanna River. \nWe will also be joined by Donna Ianonne\, former Sullivan County Commissioner and initial mastermind behind the Endless Mountain Gravel Bikepacking Route as well as Canton\, PA cyclist Eric Schoonover\, to help tell the story of the evolution of the Endless Gravel Community. \nWild Elk Gravel: In the heart of the PA Wilds is the only gravel destination in the Eastern US where 1\,500+ wild elk roam free across vast public lands! This is a place of silent ridgelines\, steep forested valleys and endless gravel. Small communities dot the landscape\, but most miles feel deeply wild and immersive\, with wildlife encounters far more common than cars. This immersive 3-day 2-night journey grants you glimpses into the natural areas and communities that thrive along the Suwannee River. You don’t have to worry about sleeping outside on this 190+ mile journey as we will be staying both nights at Camp Suwannee which offers options for riders to sleep inside one of two bunkhouses. Since the group will stay at the same camp both nights\, riders can ride on Day 2 with just the supplies needed to complete the day ride. Riders will not have to break down their camps on Saturday morning and can leave their tents until they return to sleep in the evening. \nThis year there will be two options for the route. One with as much Singletrack as possible and one utilizing as many dirt roads as possible. Riders can pick and choose and mix and match. Day 2 will also have a shorter option for riders who would enjoy doing three shorter days versus a long 80-mile day in the middle. \nWhether you’re an experienced cyclist seeking a thrilling challenge or a nature enthusiast craving an escape into the wilderness\, this off-road bicycle tour along the Suwannee River promises an unforgettable adventure. DESCRIPTION:This event is hosted by Bikepacking Roots Regional Steward Adam Rouillier. \nJoin us for a free\, fun\, 45 mile gravel loop in the Kisatchie National Forest out of Woodworth\, LA.  \nDates: December 27th & 28th\, 2025 \nLocation: Woodworth\, LA \nIt’s a chance to: \n\nExperience the beauty of Louisiana’s only National Forest\nEnjoy a campout at the beautiful Valentine Lake.\nMake new bikepacking friends and build community.\nExpand or develop your bikepacking skills.\nConnect with a Bikepacking Roots Community Steward.\n\nWho is this event for? \nThis event is for everyone interested or who loves bikepacking. The atmosphere will be supportive and non-competitive\, with the goal of sharing bikepacking and creating a safe and inclusive opportunity to bikepack. A camp vehicle will meet us at camp\, but this is an unguided ride. You bring your bike\, gear\, food and self-sufficient riding skills and we’ll bring the community and camaraderie. \n This route is for novice riders with the ability to ride 25 miles over several hours. The route does not include any singletrack and can be done on any gravel or mountain bike without issue. \n  \nWhat will the weekend look like? \nSat\, Dec 27th 2025:  \n\nMeet at Woodworth Town Hall\n12:00PM: Mandatory Rider’s Meeting. Please have your bike and gear ready to ride by the meeting time.\n12:10PM: Riders start to depart\nRide 24.4 miles and 1\,006 ft elevation gain and 967 ft elevation loss to arrive at camp at Valentine Lake North Campground.\nPlan for no resupplies but we will have a community meal planned for supper. Be sure to have a bowl/cup and a spoon in your gear. Water and restrooms are available at the campground. Please do your best to arrive at camp by dark!\nGroup camp set up\, group dinners\, hang out by the fireplace time\, s’mores. \n\nSun\, Dec 28th\, 2025:  \n\nWake up at camp! \nEat\, pack\, morning ride briefing\, and depart camp by about 9:00AM.\nRide 20.7 miles and 917 ft elevation gain and 984 ft elevation loss.\nPlan for no resupplies.\nFinish at Woodworth Town Hall.\nClosing and goodbyes by 12:30PM.\n\nWhat type of bike do I need and what do I need to bring?
