We will have a cabin as backup if the weather is exceedingly chilly or wet. \nPace: 7-10mph. We won’t leave anyone behind. \nTrail/Route: Paved road or trail with minimal crushed limestone trail portions. \nAge: All families are welcome. \nTrip Description \nExplore the beauty of our extensive forest preserves in the Southwest Burbs. We will ride through the southside neighborhoods of Beverly and Mt. Greenwood and eventually arrive to the Cal Sag Trail. From there\, we will wind through the trails of the forest preserves. Along the route\, we will take plenty of breaks and will even have a picnic before arriving to Camp Sullivan. \nAs all of our rides celebrate this beautiful corner of the earth we call home\, we acknowledge the many people who have lived here before us and seek to promote Indigenous perspectives into all we do. This ride is a celebration of this idea in practice. The big adventure we at Bago Bikes have been wanting to do for a long time… The Wisconsin Waterfalls Loop. You read that right. Given the scope of this trip\, it will follow a different format from our usual bikepacking rides:\n\nFirstly\, we will follow a “soft” distance and timetable. The full route is nearly 400 mi\, so we will be looking at cutting it to around 150 mi- 175 mi over the course of 4-ish days (3-ish nights). Both routes are 100% paved. \nA road bike\, touring\, or gravel bike is ideal for this route. \n🚲Previous bikepacking experience is NOT needed; first-time bikepackers are encouraged! \n🙂This is a guided trip with ride leads and sweeps\, but there is no sag or outside vehicle support on this ride. All campers are responsible for themselves and their decisions. Riders are responsible for ensuring their bikes are tuned up and ready to ride. \n🌼To create a more accessible registration process\, we introduced a lottery system this year to give more folks a chance to register and help ensure that spots are distributed more equitably. We strive to create a positive and supportive environment where everyone feels welcome and heard. We don’t assume anyone’s abilities based on outward appearance. If you like advise on gear need or want any other advice. We strongly recommend you stop by with your bike or pack up your bike for the trip and bring it by the shop so we can check out your setup and make recommendations as needed. Feel free to set up an appointment or just stop on by. \nWhile this is a beginner oriented bikepacking trip\, everyone is welcome. I’m sure all of the newbies will appreciate having experienced campers along for the ride.  It’s a great opportunity to do a shake down run with new gear or a new to you setup as well as sharing experience\, knowledge and setups. \nThis will be a no drop ride. We ride at a party pace with many stops and chances for regrouping as well as resupply. There is bathrooms and water along the route. Campfire Cycling will also always have a mechanic at the back of the ride so no one is left behind in case trouble arises. This ride starts with a kicker of a climb\, but only totals 38 miles and +3235 feet of climbing over Saturday and Sunday. \nThis will be self-supported dispersed camping near Cascade Lakes (6700ft elevation)\, following LNT principles\, so bring: food\, a warm sleep system\, a water filter\, a bike light for the tunnels\, and a way to bury your own poop (trowel). As always\, this is a casual open-invite trip. No sag\, and no registration or money required\, but we’ll do our best to make sure nobody is left behind or stranded. We all wear helmets and ask that you do as well. \nThese rides are at a conversational pace\, and we stick together. If you want to KOM your Strava or impress people by being first up the climb\, don’t bother coming\, as the best of the party is at the back of the pack.\nThe route link is in my bio. This is an opportunity to ride your damn bike with a lot of other bikepackers in a beautiful Hill Country setting. \nGPS Tracking is required for safety reasons. \nLowdown\nThe Lowdown is NOT a race. It is a ride. There is a group camp. It’s a lot more fun than going fast and not sleeping. You are still expected to be self supported\, but we’ve reserved Group Campsites for Friday and Saturday evening\, so you’re guaranteed some camaraderie for your efforts! \nDue to lack of camping and resupply options on the second leg of this route\, it is recommended to utilize the campsites we have reserved for you. \nThis route is 50% gravel/dirt/sand and 50% paved. It features some of the most iconic and quintessential Texas landscapes\, including views of Enchanted Rock. \nNo prizes\, awards\, or placements will be given for this event. \nGPS tracking is required to participate for safety reasons only\, not for official timing. \nSlowdown\nStep on up to the Slowdown a mixed surface ultra cycling race that gives riders a chance to test their skills\, endurance\, and mindset against others. OR you could just take it easy and break it up into a 3 day ride\, you know….Slowdown… \nThere is a shockingly low supply of Gravel/Dirt roads in this part of Texas. As a result this course is 25% Gravel/Dirt & 75% paved. However\, most of the paved roads are remote\, beautiful\, and low traffic. \nShowdown\nReady to step up to the big leagues? The Showdown is 500 miles of the best roads and views the Hill Country can provide. Did I say 500 miles??? Yes\, yes I did. New for 2025 the Showdown has a new and improved (and longer) Death Loop™. \nFor the uninitiated the Death Loop is a core component of the Showdown Series and a fun way to spice things up a little. The Death Loop starts when you arrive at the finish line\, but wait there’s more. Riders will be able to use the Castell General Store (start/finish line) as neutral support. Grab a burger\, maybe a beer\, chat with friends\, but don’t get sucked in\, you still have a 60 mile Death Loop to conquer before you can kick your feat up and celebrate Texas style. \nThere’s a lot of paved roads in this part of Texas\, but you’ll be surprised at how remote and beautiful they are. The ratio of paved and unpaved sections make picking the right tire a fun challenge for racers to ponder. Do you go skinny and blast through the paved sections only to beat yourself up a little on gravel\, washboard\, and sandy roads; or do you err on the side of comfort? What’s going to be faster? However\, those POI’s are not intended to be representative of all options available on route. Riders are expected to do their own homework and have camping/sleeping arrangements planned ahead of time.\nBetween miles 0 and 110 there are no resupply or water refill options on route. We are working to establish a Drop Site so participants can stash needed supplies on route. BoD will facilitate this at check in. More details coming soon.\nThere are long sections with ZERO cell phone reception. It is imperative that you do your homework on resupply options on route and make sure that they are open when you plan to be there. Have extra food/water is encouraged due to the remoteness of these routes.\nGPS Tracking is Required for all participants regardless of event you are doing.\nOur first priority with all of the routes is SAFETY! However\, bike riding/racing on public roads is inherently dangerous. There are sections on the route where you can expect higher traffic conditions\, these are necessary to route into town with supplies. Please ride with caution and awareness.\nRescue vehicles will be available for participants of all routes. We encourage riders to make their way back to the finish line by their own means if possible. There is a minimum of $25 fee to use our rescue drivers (you can give your rescue driver more if you are able).\nCamping before & after the race – We have reserved group camping at the Historic Castell Church grounds behind the Generally Store. If flying\, Bradley International Airport (BDL) is an hour drive. \nroutes to the event: I make up a few country options each year from the New Haven train station and Clinton train station. This year we have two routes available\, a 210 +- route and the new Kings Road XL route\, 333 miles. The ride will roll out from the Jena Boat Ramp and End on the Atlantic coast\, down by the beach\, to the right of the Flagler Beach Pier. \nThe group start will be draft-legal and will challenge riders to complete the course as quickly as possible\, although riders are free to complete the challenge without the constraints of cut-offs or time limits. \nThis is a self-supported ride; there are no sag wagons\, and no support vehicles are allowed\, except being able to draft riders must maintain this self-supported status throughout the event. \nYour registration of 80$ includes the route information\, a trail guide\, a resource waypoint file\, one souvenir\, and access to both routes. Routes will be released August 15th\, and once the information is sent\, no refunds or transfers will be available. Tracking will be provided by Trackleaders\, and it is at that time that riders will choose which route they want to ride. There are only two categories available\, solo and team. It is at the time of Trackleaders registration that you would choose the team option if that’s how you decided to tackle the route. \nThere will be a shuttle available; spots are limited to the first 30 folks who register for this option. The shuttle will pick up riders in Flagler Beach at noon on October 24th and transport riders to Steinhatchee. The designated parking spot for shuttle riders is approximately 1 mile from the finish line. The price of the shuttle is 130$\, add that ticket option to your cart to secure your spot. Shuttle spots are refundable as long as it’s canceled 3 weeks before the event start date. \nSince there is no cut-off time\, riders can choose to ride the route as fast as they want or tour it at their leisure. This Southern California adventure offers a mix of sand\, mountains\, and stunning landscapes\, making it a prime weekend getaway. The route features diverse terrain\, delicious Mexican food\, a communal group camp\, the Culp Valley Cultural Preserve\, the Anza Borrego Desert State Park\, and the renowned Dark Sky Community. \nParticipants are encouraged to make a suggested $20 donation to help offset the campground reservation fee\, firewood\, and camp snacks. Emily Elliott is the contact person for the event and can be reached at emilyelliott43@gmail.com. \nThe Route and Experience \nThe Ranchita Rambler Grand Depart is not a race but rather a relaxed weekend of bikepacking with friends. Riders will start and camp together but are encouraged to ride at their own pace and navigate the route independently. The journey begins and ends in Ranchita\, CA\, at the Ranchita Bodega. \nDay one kicks off with some early climbs through the Ranchita foothills\, followed by a thrilling sandy descent down Grapevine Canyon into the Anza Borrego Desert. Riders will then tackle a paved section with a narrow shoulder\, leading to the scenic Cactus Valley double track. The route also passes the famous Borrego Springs metal sculptures\, adding a cultural touch to the adventure. \nThe first night’s campsite will be at Borrego Palm Canyon Campground\, where riders can enjoy amenities like flush toilets and coin-operated hot showers while gazing at the breathtaking night sky. Along the way\, there are opportunities to refuel with quintessential California burritos in the town of Borrego Springs. \nOn day two\, riders can either grab breakfast in camp or start their ascent up the iconic Montezuma Valley Road\, also known as the “Glass Elevator” for its panoramic views of the desert floor. The climb\, with its 3\,300-foot elevation gain\, is challenging\, but the vistas are worth the effort. The route then leads through the Culp Valley Cultural Preserve\, offering double track trails and educational sites with views extending to the Salton Sea. For those preferring a less sandy option\, the Culp Valley segment can be bypassed by staying on the pavement. \nThe ride concludes back in Ranchita. Riders should note that\, as of July 2024\, the Ranchita Bodega is not operational\, so it’s wise to stash post-ride snacks in your car. In the summer of 2022 Dave was attempting a back to back ride of the 5 most recent Mid South 100 courses. Josh McCullock joined Dave for a bit of one of those rides and at some point in exhausted delirium\, Dave mentioned linking together the outer perimeter of all the historical Mid South courses. The idea was planted\, and over the next 2 years The Mid South didn’t let it go. \nWith help from Dr. Seth Wood and our friends at Ride with GPS\, the course was cobbled together. All that was left was to ground truth the route. That process resulted in a 5 part documentary series you can watch below. \nOnce the route was finessed\, we invited the community to come ride it! \nThe inaugural grand depart of this route happened on Sept 18th 2024\, with the estimated completion coinciding with The Mid South 2025 registration party. The morning held great anticipation with 140 riders aboard their rigs for takeoff. The Oklahoma landscape held a bevy of challenges for these riders including high temps of 108 degrees\, stifling humidity and even a deadly overnight thunder storm. \nIn the end\, only 40 riders completed the 300 mile route earning them a hallowed place in the lore of Mega Mid South. This route is a nearly flat\, gravel trail.  \nDistance to campsite is 5-9 miles out\, depending on site availability. Primitive campsite (no bathroom)\, but supply stop for food and drinks at about 6.5 miles from the trailhead (1-2 miles from the campsite).   \n  \nOn Day 1\, the group will meet at the Alston Trailhead and ride together to the campsite\, where they will set up camp. Then\, anyone interested in continuing to ride will finish the rest of the trail (an additional 11ish miles). For the rest of the day\, we will hang out at the campsite and may ride back and forth to Wilson’s for snacks and dinner. Plan is to stop at Wilson’s gas station to purchase dinner (hamburgers\, bbq sandwiches) and snacks/ drinks for the night; however\, if you have significant dietary restrictions\, please pack your own items that fit your needs. Day 2\, after breakfast and coffee\, the group will break down camp\, help transport any trash to dumpsters at Wilson’s\, then ride 5 miles back to the trail head.  \n  \nThis is a Women/Trans/Femme/Non-Binary bikepacking trip. This is a favorite trip from the Rides with Friends series.\n\nThe route\, depending on any variations the group may choose\, is about 60 miles with about 500′ of climbing over two days.\nWe cross the Black Rock Desert Playa to Double Hot Springs\, an important stop along the California Emigrant Trail.\nThen we make our way along the base of the Black Rock Range to climb to the micro-playas above Black Rock Point.\nThis hanging playa has the magical quality of making you feel like you are in the most remote place possible. But you are only 30 miles into the trip.\n\nDay 2 will be 25-35 miles with negligible climbing to return to the vehicles at 12 Mile.\nWe will be on desert roads through the boundary dunes through a very geothermally active zone.\n\nThis is a dry route\, so you must carry all your water needs\, 4-5 L recommended.\n\nWe will have our post-trip meal at Bruno’s in Gerlach.\n\nHope you can make it!\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]

We’re gonna do an out-and-back on the AZT! This will be a mountain biking trip\, so we recommend you use a hardtail or full suspension mountain bike with 2.3 tires or bigger for comfort and grip. \nThis trip does have some challenges to it (challenging singletrack terrain riding\, sandy loose terrain\, rocks\, steep climbs\, some hike-a-bike) and no resupplies except for water at Kentucky Camp. \nThe terrain is almost all singletrack with a short section of Gravel/paved Roads. \nWe’ll be riding mostly uphill the first day (it will be a long\, difficult day and expect some hike-a-bike. Beyond the beautiful riding\, we plan to check out Kentucky camp as well as the Gin House cabin if time permits. \nWe will be self-supported and do not have plans for a sag wagon to join us. There will not be water at camp; however\, there is water and restrooms available at Kentucky Camp\, 2-3 miles from our expected camping spot\, and we will stop there on the way out in the morning as well. \nWe will be passing near the borderlands. This is an area of human migration\, and we recommend reading this article from Sarah Swallow’s Sky Islands page and scrolling down to the “Borders and Human Migration” section\, and reading through the 3 articles and familiarizing yourselves. The atmosphere will be supportive and non-competitive\, with the goal of sharing bikepacking and creating a safe and inclusive opportunity to bikepack. A camp vehicle will meet us at camp\, but this is an unguided ride. You bring your bike\, gear\, food and self-sufficient riding skills and we’ll bring the community and camaraderie. \n This route is for novice riders with the ability to ride 25 miles over several hours. The route does not include any singletrack and can be done on any gravel or mountain bike without issue. \n  \nWhat will the weekend look like? \nSat\, November 15th 2025:  \n\nMeet at Woodworth Town Hall\n12:00PM: Mandatory Rider’s Meeting. Please have your bike and gear ready to ride by the meeting time.\n12:10PM: Riders start to depart\nRide 24.4 miles and 1\,006 ft elevation gain and 967 ft elevation loss to arrive at camp at Valentine Lake North Campground.\nPlan for no resupplies but we will have a community meal planned for supper. Be sure to have a bowl/cup and a spoon in your gear. Water and restrooms are available at the campground. Please do your best to arrive at camp by dark!\nGroup camp set up\, group dinners\, hang out by the fireplace time\, s’mores. \n\nSun\, November 16th\, 2025:  \n\nWake up at camp! \nEat\, pack\, morning ride briefing\, and depart camp by about 9:00AM.\nRide 20.7 miles and 917 ft elevation gain and 984 ft elevation loss.\nPlan for no resupplies.\nFinish at Woodworth Town Hall.\nClosing and goodbyes by 12:30PM.\n\nWhat type of bike do I need and what do I need to bring?
