Learn about the history and ecology of the Kankakee area while cruising along this beautiful and rustic web of trails and small towns of Will and Kankakee counties. \nDay two will be a bit more chill with some free time to explore the state park or the town of Kankakee which has a ton to offer including the second Dairy Queen in the nation\, a dog stick library\, and even caves! After some morning exploring\, the group will hit the road in the early afternoon to ride the 30ish miles back to Joliet to catch the Rock Island Metra back to Chicago. \nSome of the trails and roads that this ride covers are fine to medium gravel so it’s a good idea to make sure your tires are in good condition. The routes are centered around the state capital and are composed of singletrack\, scenic double track\, coastal levees\, and forest roads. \nThere are four routes available. \nThe Tango Original 165 – This route offers many of the same features of the 177 route\, just by passes Aucilla. \nThe Tango 177 – Takes riders on the Eastern Side of the Aucilla River and offers riders options to see some of Florida’s Finest Rapids. \nThe Tango 277 – features all the awesomeness of the 177 route but offers riders a chance to go through Tate’s Hell and Back! \nThe Tango LiTe\, aka the Tango through Hell 230 miles\, is a mostly Gravel Route option for those riders wanting to see this beautiful area and avoid 99% of the singletrack found on the original route. LiTe does not mean easy. \nWhat you are purchasing is the route information. Once you purchase that info\, it is yours to use and ride the route at your leisure. Everyone who purchases the route information will be invited to participate in the kick-off event that marks the official beginning of the Florida Bikepacking season. Route information will be sent on August 1st. Once the information is sent\, no refunds can be offered\, and there is no changing of routes unless you purchase that additional information. In other words\, plenty of time to make up your mind! Again\, what you are purchasing is the information; there is no transfer or refunds after August 1st. \nWe ride this route for enjoyment and appreciation of the beautiful wildlife corridors located in the area. For fun\, riders can choose to have their finishing times compared to other participants. Those who choose to want to have their times compared agree to follow the rules of offers and to be tracked using trackleaders. Trackleaders offers rentals or the use of a tracking app\, or you can use your own Spot\, InReach\, or Zolio. Additionally\, Riders who choose to have their times compared can ride solo or as a team. \nEveryone who gets an invite to the kick-off event will also be invited to a Friday Night Dinner\, have access to a group camp\, and receive a Patch. \nAll proceeds from the event are used to continue the work of organizing amazing one-of-a-kind events and help support the effort to map new routes and steward the existing routes. Riders are only allowed to utilize assistance available to the general public under normal business and agency operating conditions. The clock starts as soon as the rider starts and doesn’t end until the rider finishes. Live tracking is required\, as well as publicly available tracking logs. Approved assistance exceptions are typically allowed during Group Depart week from approved “Trail Angels”. \nMini RAT is for anyone who wants to follow the RAT route with no expectation of completing the full route. Ride as many (or as few) as fits into your schedule. We have a single weekend route for people who want to pedal back to DFW: Mini RAT Day 1\, 140 Miles\, Texarkana to Paris\nMini RAT Day 2\, 110 miles Paris to Rowlett Train Station. \nThe Tiny RAT is a 150-mile lollipop from Farmersville to Paris and back\, which primarily utilizes the NETT. Saturday night overnight in Paris is included\, which offers the opportunity to socialize with the RAT riders as they come into Paris. Please note\, this is not an “easy” ride. 75 miles each day is likely to feel more like 100 on these sections of the NETT. Self-navigation capability is EXTREMELY important. We will provide the route\, but it will not be verified beforehand. The big adventure we at Bago Bikes have been wanting to do for a long time… The Wisconsin Waterfalls Loop. You read that right. Given the scope of this trip\, it will follow a different format from our usual bikepacking rides:\n\nFirstly\, we will follow a “soft” distance and timetable. The full route is nearly 400 mi\, so we will be looking at cutting it to around 150 mi- 175 mi over the course of 4-ish days (3-ish nights). Both routes are 100% paved. \nA road bike\, touring\, or gravel bike is ideal for this route. \n🚲Previous bikepacking experience is NOT needed; first-time bikepackers are encouraged! \n🙂This is a guided trip with ride leads and sweeps\, but there is no sag or outside vehicle support on this ride. All campers are responsible for themselves and their decisions. Riders are responsible for ensuring their bikes are tuned up and ready to ride. \n🌼To create a more accessible registration process\, we introduced a lottery system this year to give more folks a chance to register and help ensure that spots are distributed more equitably. In line with our mission\, we will be prioritizing 50% of our campout lottery spots for BIPOC\, transgender\, and gender expansive riders. We strongly recommend you stop by with your bike or pack up your bike for the trip and bring it by the shop so we can check out your setup and make recommendations as needed. Feel free to set up an appointment or just stop on by. \nWhile this is a beginner oriented bikepacking trip\, everyone is welcome. I’m sure all of the newbies will appreciate having experienced campers along for the ride.  It’s a great opportunity to do a shake down run with new gear or a new to you setup as well as sharing experience\, knowledge and setups. \nThis will be a no drop ride. We ride at a party pace with many stops and chances for regrouping as well as resupply. There is bathrooms and water along the route. Campfire Cycling will also always have a mechanic at the back of the ride so no one is left behind in case trouble arises. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_class=”teammateRow”][vc_column width=”1/4″ el_class=”teammateImage”][vc_single_image image=”71825″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” css=”” image_hovers=”false”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″ el_class=”teammateDescription”][vc_row_inner el_class=”TeammateContent”][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text css=””] \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Details: Park at the Safeway in Truckee\, CA\, roll out at 10 am sharp\, then promptly open a magic portal to a beautiful\, dirty\, stinky world where time and capitalism no longer exist. \nThis will be our last bike camping trip of the year\, and holy smokes\, it’s a good one\, with some mellow singletrack\, a beautiful little lake\, an amazing campsite\, and the longest abandoned railroad tunnels I’ve ever ridden through! This ride starts with a kicker of a climb\, but only totals 38 miles and +3235 feet of climbing over Saturday and Sunday. \nThis will be self-supported dispersed camping near Cascade Lakes (6700ft elevation)\, following LNT principles\, so bring: food\, a warm sleep system\, a water filter\, a bike light for the tunnels\, and a way to bury your own poop (trowel). As always\, this is a casual open-invite trip. No sag\, and no registration or money required\, but we’ll do our best to make sure nobody is left behind or stranded. We all wear helmets and ask that you do as well. \nThese rides are at a conversational pace\, and we stick together. If you want to KOM your Strava or impress people by being first up the climb\, don’t bother coming\, as the best of the party is at the back of the pack.\nThe route link is in my bio. This time its set in the Texas Hill Country with its iconic views\, endless hills\, and rugged beauty in abundance. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Hills are Calling\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration Opens: May 1st @ High Noon (also known as\, 12pm CST) \nSuper Lowdown\nHow Low can you go?? Introducing the Super Lowdown! Building on our mission to make the outdoors and bikepacking accessible for everyone\, the Super Lowdown clocks in at just 83 miles with free camping at Oxford Campground at mile 55 on the route. \nThis is not a race. This is an opportunity to ride your damn bike with a lot of other bikepackers in a beautiful Hill Country setting. \nGPS Tracking is required for safety reasons. \nLowdown\nThe Lowdown is NOT a race. It is a ride. There is a group camp. It’s a lot more fun than going fast and not sleeping. You are still expected to be self supported\, but we’ve reserved Group Campsites for Friday and Saturday evening\, so you’re guaranteed some camaraderie for your efforts! \nDue to lack of camping and resupply options on the second leg of this route\, it is recommended to utilize the campsites we have reserved for you. \nThis route is 50% gravel/dirt/sand and 50% paved. It features some of the most iconic and quintessential Texas landscapes\, including views of Enchanted Rock. \nNo prizes\, awards\, or placements will be given for this event. \nGPS tracking is required to participate for safety reasons only\, not for official timing. \nSlowdown\nStep on up to the Slowdown a mixed surface ultra cycling race that gives riders a chance to test their skills\, endurance\, and mindset against others. OR you could just take it easy and break it up into a 3 day ride\, you know….Slowdown… \nThere is a shockingly low supply of Gravel/Dirt roads in this part of Texas. As a result this course is 25% Gravel/Dirt & 75% paved. However\, most of the paved roads are remote\, beautiful\, and low traffic. \nShowdown\nReady to step up to the big leagues? The Showdown is 500 miles of the best roads and views the Hill Country can provide. Did I say 500 miles??? Yes\, yes I did. New for 2025 the Showdown has a new and improved (and longer) Death Loop™. \nFor the uninitiated the Death Loop is a core component of the Showdown Series and a fun way to spice things up a little. The Death Loop starts when you arrive at the finish line\, but wait there’s more. Riders will be able to use the Castell General Store (start/finish line) as neutral support. Grab a burger\, maybe a beer\, chat with friends\, but don’t get sucked in\, you still have a 60 mile Death Loop to conquer before you can kick your feat up and celebrate Texas style. \nThere’s a lot of paved roads in this part of Texas\, but you’ll be surprised at how remote and beautiful they are. The ratio of paved and unpaved sections make picking the right tire a fun challenge for racers to ponder. Do you go skinny and blast through the paved sections only to beat yourself up a little on gravel\, washboard\, and sandy roads; or do you err on the side of comfort? What’s going to be faster? How much do you want to suffer? You decide how you want to Showdown! \n**Routes will be finalized no less than a week prior to the event. You will need to rely on State Parks\, HipCamps\, AirBnB’s\, Hotels\, etc. if you plan to sleep. Some of these accommodations are listed as POI’s on the route file. However\, those POI’s are not intended to be representative of all options available on route. Riders are expected to do their own homework and have camping/sleeping arrangements planned ahead of time.\nBetween miles 0 and 110 there are no resupply or water refill options on route. We are working to establish a Drop Site so participants can stash needed supplies on route. BoD will facilitate this at check in. More details coming soon.\nThere are long sections with ZERO cell phone reception. It is imperative that you do your homework on resupply options on route and make sure that they are open when you plan to be there. Have extra food/water is encouraged due to the remoteness of these routes.\nGPS Tracking is Required for all participants regardless of event you are doing.\nOur first priority with all of the routes is SAFETY! However\, bike riding/racing on public roads is inherently dangerous. There are sections on the route where you can expect higher traffic conditions\, these are necessary to route into town with supplies. Please ride with caution and awareness.\nRescue vehicles will be available for participants of all routes. We encourage riders to make their way back to the finish line by their own means if possible. There is a minimum of $25 fee to use our rescue drivers (you can give your rescue driver more if you are able).\nCamping before & after the race – We have reserved group camping at the Historic Castell Church grounds behind the Generally Store. Dear Lake is 5 pleasant miles from the station. If flying\, Bradley International Airport (BDL) is an hour drive. \nroutes to the event: I make up a few country options each year from the New Haven train station and Clinton train station. This year we have two routes available\, a 210 +- route and the new Kings Road XL route\, 333 miles. The ride will roll out from the Jena Boat Ramp and End on the Atlantic coast\, down by the beach\, to the right of the Flagler Beach Pier. \nThe group start will be draft-legal and will challenge riders to complete the course as quickly as possible\, although riders are free to complete the challenge without the constraints of cut-offs or time limits. \nThis is a self-supported ride; there are no sag wagons\, and no support vehicles are allowed\, except being able to draft riders must maintain this self-supported status throughout the event. \nYour registration of 80$ includes the route information\, a trail guide\, a resource waypoint file\, one souvenir\, and access to both routes. Routes will be released August 15th\, and once the information is sent\, no refunds or transfers will be available. Tracking will be provided by Trackleaders\, and it is at that time that riders will choose which route they want to ride. There are only two categories available\, solo and team. It is at the time of Trackleaders registration that you would choose the team option if that’s how you decided to tackle the route. \nThere will be a shuttle available; spots are limited to the first 30 folks who register for this option. The shuttle will pick up riders in Flagler Beach at noon on October 24th and transport riders to Steinhatchee. The designated parking spot for shuttle riders is approximately 1 mile from the finish line. The price of the shuttle is 130$\, add that ticket option to your cart to secure your spot. Shuttle spots are refundable as long as it’s canceled 3 weeks before the event start date. \nSince there is no cut-off time\, riders can choose to ride the route as fast as they want or tour it at their leisure. We’re usually heading towards the river\, but this year\, we’re taking a different turn and exploring the ocean first. We’ll also venture into some new areas and camp in some cool spots we haven’t been to before. \nThis is a self-supported ride\, so you’ll need to bring your own gear and supplies. We’ll be camping and restocking at stores and commercial places along the way. \nThere’ll be a group camp the night before the start\, with free drinks and a fun Friday night party with food and drinks! \nThe route will be around 160 to 180 miles long\, and we’ll finalize it on October 10th. This is a guided group ride\, so we’ll stay together and regroup as needed. \nThe price is 110$ and there will be a commemorative patch! \nRoute Files\, Guide\, and Waypoint Files will be final and event-ready by October 10th. This Southern California adventure offers a mix of sand\, mountains\, and stunning landscapes\, making it a prime weekend getaway. The route features diverse terrain\, delicious Mexican food\, a communal group camp\, the Culp Valley Cultural Preserve\, the Anza Borrego Desert State Park\, and the renowned Dark Sky Community. \nParticipants are encouraged to make a suggested $20 donation to help offset the campground reservation fee\, firewood\, and camp snacks. Emily Elliott is the contact person for the event and can be reached at emilyelliott43@gmail.com. \nThe Route and Experience \nThe Ranchita Rambler Grand Depart is not a race but rather a relaxed weekend of bikepacking with friends. Riders will start and camp together but are encouraged to ride at their own pace and navigate the route independently. The journey begins and ends in Ranchita\, CA\, at the Ranchita Bodega. \nDay one kicks off with some early climbs through the Ranchita foothills\, followed by a thrilling sandy descent down Grapevine Canyon into the Anza Borrego Desert. Riders will then tackle a paved section with a narrow shoulder\, leading to the scenic Cactus Valley double track. The route also passes the famous Borrego Springs metal sculptures\, adding a cultural touch to the adventure. \nThe first night’s campsite will be at Borrego Palm Canyon Campground\, where riders can enjoy amenities like flush toilets and coin-operated hot showers while gazing at the breathtaking night sky. Along the way\, there are opportunities to refuel with quintessential California burritos in the town of Borrego Springs. \nOn day two\, riders can either grab breakfast in camp or start their ascent up the iconic Montezuma Valley Road\, also known as the “Glass Elevator” for its panoramic views of the desert floor. The climb\, with its 3\,300-foot elevation gain\, is challenging\, but the vistas are worth the effort. The route then leads through the Culp Valley Cultural Preserve\, offering double track trails and educational sites with views extending to the Salton Sea. For those preferring a less sandy option\, the Culp Valley segment can be bypassed by staying on the pavement. \nThe ride concludes back in Ranchita. Riders should note that\, as of July 2024\, the Ranchita Bodega is not operational\, so it’s wise to stash post-ride snacks in your car. In the summer of 2022 Dave was attempting a back to back ride of the 5 most recent Mid South 100 courses. Josh McCullock joined Dave for a bit of one of those rides and at some point in exhausted delirium\, Dave mentioned linking together the outer perimeter of all the historical Mid South courses. The idea was planted\, and over the next 2 years The Mid South didn’t let it go. \nWith help from Dr. Seth Wood and our friends at Ride with GPS\, the course was cobbled together. All that was left was to ground truth the route. That process resulted in a 5 part documentary series you can watch below. \nOnce the route was finessed\, we invited the community to come ride it! \nThe inaugural grand depart of this route happened on Sept 18th 2024\, with the estimated completion coinciding with The Mid South 2025 registration party. The morning held great anticipation with 140 riders aboard their rigs for takeoff. The Oklahoma landscape held a bevy of challenges for these riders including high temps of 108 degrees\, stifling humidity and even a deadly overnight thunder storm. \nIn the end\, only 40 riders completed the 300 mile route earning them a hallowed place in the lore of Mega Mid South.
