We love riding our bikes\, and it’s always such a fun time to get out on our favorite trails with fellow bike lovers to celebrate the solstice\, Swift Industries\, and the sport of bike camping. \nAbout the route \nThe mixed-terrain route takes you through downtown Boulder\, up Boulder Canyon\, and up up up Four Mile Canyon to Switzlerland Trail. We’ll spend the night camping near Mount Alto Picnic Area\, then wake up bright and early to grab a bite to eat in Gold Hill. After that\, we’ll bike down Sunshine Canyon to get back to town and end right where we started. The route is a mix of bike path\, paved roads\, jeep roads\, and gravel. The first day will be a steady climb up to camp and the second day will be a long descent back into town. \nThere will be multiple pace groups and re-group points. This is a no-drop ride. \nNOTE: This is not a beginner bikepacking trip due to the large amount of climbing and technical terrain! It is a transformative\, four-week series designed to empower women and non-binary individuals to explore bikepacking confidently. \nTaking place in Nelson\, BC\, between May 27 – June 22\, 2025\, this workshop offers a supportive\, inclusive space for participants to build essential skills\, forge connections\, and grow their confidence in the outdoors. \nFour workshops will take place on the following dates :May 27\, June 3\, 10\, 17. They have rad merch\, so show up early if you wanna support the shop that designed this sweet route for us. \nThis is self-supported overnight bikecamping on gravel and dirt roads in the Tahoe National Forest area. \n35 miles total\, with 4900 feet of climbing\, spread over two days. \nTires at least 40c or bigger are recommended for this terrain\, and bring your climbing gears for this one. \nThis will be dispersed camping following LNT principles\, so bring: food\, sleep system\, a water filter\, and a way to bury your own poop (trowel). \nAs always\, this is a casual\, open-invite trip. \nNo sag\, and no registration or money is required\, but we’ll try to make sure nobody is left behind or stranded. \nPlease download the route just in case\, though. We all wear helmets and ask that you do as well. \nThese rides are at a conversational pace\, and we stick together. If you want to KOM your Strava or impress people by being first up the climb\, don’t bother coming\, as the best of the party is at the back of the pack.\nJay has made us a killer route for us this year\, with a couple of lovely swim stops on the Yuba. Essential Workers have served as the backbone to our City’s operations prior to the 2020 shutdown\, and Out Our Front Door recognizes the innumerable additional challenges placed on workers since the start of the pandemic. We see many of the incentives to remain employed in an essential industry are slowly expiring and many accommodations that we’d hoped would be long term are no more. \nThis ride is offered as a way to say ‘thank you’ to our Essential Workers community. Camping spots\, navigation and cooking will be covered by OOFD. All you have to do is show up. \n_____________ \nMileage: Day 1: 28 Miles | Day 2: 28 miles \nSupport: Self supported – you carry all of your own camping gear on your own bike. No vehicle support. \nLodging: Tent (camping gear not provided). We will stay at Camp Shabbona Woods (Cook County Forest Preserve) located 15810 S. Torrence Ave\, South Holland IL\, 60473 (map) \nPace: 12-15mph \nTrail/Route: Paved road with minimal gravel incorporated and possible snow. \nAge: Adult Ride (21+) \nTrip Description\nTravel south over bridges\, canals\, and railroads to a hidden gem among the industrial past of Chicago: Camp Shabbona Woods. This is the closest Cook County camping site from Chicago and is an accessible low-stress ride\, suitable for beginners and experienced riders. DESCRIPTION:This campout is hosted by Bikepacking Roots Community Steward Don Keller in partnership with Trailhead Bicycles  \nDollarhide Loop June 28th-29th\n90 miles and 5\,920 ft gain\n9am departure from The Trailhead Bicycles\, returning Sunday afternoon by 4pm\nCamping at Worswick Natural Hot springs with the option to bike to Smokey Bar for burger.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis group rides is non-guided. All people\, all bikes\, all skills are welcome! Each event is open to a max of 20 people. The ride is non-guided group overnight bikepacking adventure. All participants need to sign a waiver acknowledging the nature of these trips and plan to be self-sufficient. \nBike bags are available to borrow through Dark Sky Bikepacking lending library and bikes are available to rent through The Trailhead Bicycles. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_class=”teammateRow”][vc_column width=”1/4″ el_class=”teammateImage”][vc_single_image image=”70932″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” css=”” image_hovers=”false”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″ el_class=”teammateDescription”][vc_row_inner el_class=”TeammateContent”][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text css=””] \n\n\n\n\nThe amazing folks at @livefromthegarage.music\, a DIY music venue in Boyds on the back of a 77-acre horse farm\, have invited us to camp on their land and see a show– and of course\, we’re going! \nThe garage is one of the few DIY venues left in our area\, and it’s at risk of getting shut down\, so we’re heading out to show our support. \nThis is an rjr+ event: that means that we’re inviting our cool\, non-wtf+ friends along for the ride as well. \nWe’ll be riding up the C&O from Georgetown\, where we’ll hop off at Riley’s Lock and take the hilly on-road route up to the farm– there will be some brief shoulder (kinda gross) high traffic riding\, but we’ll stay together and take it easy– most paved riding will be quiet roads. \nThe show is from 3-8 pm\, and we’ll be able to set up camp afterwards\, pet some horses\, and call it a night. In the morning\, we’ll roll back to the C&O\, or there will be an option to roll yourself to the shady grove metro. Setting out from Chicago\, the group will first roll onto the Illinois Prairie Path. The very first Rails to Trails path\, this route connects many scenic suburban towns and villages through its over 61 miles of pavement and gravel. \nRiding west with the early summer sun\, the group will stop for breakfast at the vibrant Wheaton French Market to grab fresh-baked pastries\, local small batch cold brew\, and other delights. Energized and fortified\, the group turn west up the Fox River trail and sail along the riverside through historic towns whose fortunes waxed and waned with the rails. The group will see the Fox River Railway Museum in South Elgin\, ride by windmills in Geneva\, a restored train depot in Batavia\, and maybe stop for BBQ in a converted caboose in Dundee! \nIn between towns\, the group will take a break from the sun as the trail curls through deeply shaded oak forests\, broad freshwater fens\, and stunning stretches of oak savannah. As the summer sun starts to dip low\, the group will leave the Fox River valley behind and travel through the final miles of rolling farmland to arrive at Chain O’Lakes state park. Dinner awaits you on arrival\, along with s’more and story telling around the campfire. \nThis multi-modal adventure will cover approximately 100 miles on the first day. This is the biggest day. About 75 miles and camp at the national park. \nDay 2 Roll out around noon and slow roll our way about 45 miles up to Weko Beach Campground in Bridgman\, MI. \nDay 3 is a chill day. Relax on the beach all day or ride into town for some beers or hop on the 25ish mile loop that an OOFD will be leading. Or even go adventure off on your own through the gorgeous country roads of Michigan beer and wine country. So much good beer\, food\, wine\, and beach to explore. The campground is a 4 minute walk to a stellar beach and the epic dunes of Warren are just a few minute walk down the beach. \nDay 4 we ride about 40 miles up to Van Buren State Park which is just south of Grand Haven\, MI. \nDay 5 we ride about 60 miles to South Bend\, IN and hop the South Shore Train back to the city. A UHaul will transport bikes back to Chicago as the South Bend stop cannot take bikes this year due to track construction. \nSupport: Sag van that will carry one school sized backpack per rider \nLodging: \nThursday – Dunewood Campground – Indiana Dunes\, IN \nFriday/Saturday – Weko Beach Campground – Bridgeman\, MI \nSunday – Van Buren State Park – Van Buren\, MI \nPace: 12-15mph \nTrail/Route: Paved road with minimal gravel incorporated and possible snow. \nAge: Adult Ride (21+) \nTrip Description\nWhat’s Included: 4 nights/5 days of bike camping (It is possible to join us a day late and leave a day early if needed) \nThis ride is an ecstatic celebration of Lake Michigan and all that it coast has to offer. This is going down in the heart of the summer and there will be plenty of chances to go swimming in our gem of a lake. Hence the name\, the SWMI\, “swimmy”\, ride. Roll with some of the best guides OOFD has to offer as we finally break into our 4th state\, Michigan! Learn about the ecology of the lake and the lake shore while also exploring some of its hidden gems and excellent local spots. \nThe organizers understand pulling off a 5 day ride might be tough\, so you can join us Thursday night or Friday morning at the IN Dunes. The south shore train is super convenient for this. Also\, if you need to dip out on Sunday\, the Amtrak and South Shore can get ya back to the city no problem. This route goes over Humboldt and Humbug summits\, stops at an ice cold spring on the PCT\, a naturally carbonated spring off Cottonwood Meadow\, and we camp in the woods along Butt Creek. It’s one of our most remote routes\, with no amenities\, no stores\, no collaborators\, and no cell service. Just us\, forests\, dirt\, and creeks. \nJuly 19th\, we roll out of the Jonesville Snowmobile Parking Lot at 10 am sharp. This route is 95% gravel\, 55 miles total\, with 5100 feet of climbing\, spread over two days. \nThis will be self-supported dispersed camping following LNT principles\, so bring: food\, sleep system\, a water filter\, and a way to bury your own poop (trowel). As always\, this is a casual\, open-invite trip. There is no sag\, and no registration or money required\, but we’ll try to make sure nobody is left behind or stranded. We all wear helmets and ask that you do as well. \nThese rides are at a conversational pace\, and we stick together. If you want to KOM your Strava or impress people by being first up the climb\, don’t bother coming\, as the best of the party is at the back of the pack.\nThe route link is in my bio. Be sure to download it in one form or another before the trip\, as cell service can be nonexistent in this area\, and if something unforeseen happens\, we want you to be able to navigate back to your vehicle safely.
