The routes are centered around the state capital and are composed of singletrack\, scenic double track\, coastal levees\, and forest roads. \nThere are four routes available. \nThe Tango Original 165 – This route offers many of the same features of the 177 route\, just by passes Aucilla. \nThe Tango 177 – Takes riders on the Eastern Side of the Aucilla River and offers riders options to see some of Florida’s Finest Rapids. \nThe Tango 277 – features all the awesomeness of the 177 route but offers riders a chance to go through Tate’s Hell and Back! \nThe Tango LiTe\, aka the Tango through Hell 230 miles\, is a mostly Gravel Route option for those riders wanting to see this beautiful area and avoid 99% of the singletrack found on the original route. LiTe does not mean easy. \nWhat you are purchasing is the route information. Once you purchase that info\, it is yours to use and ride the route at your leisure. Everyone who purchases the route information will be invited to participate in the kick-off event that marks the official beginning of the Florida Bikepacking season. Route information will be sent on August 1st. Once the information is sent\, no refunds can be offered\, and there is no changing of routes unless you purchase that additional information. In other words\, plenty of time to make up your mind! SUMMARY:Weekend Overnight Hudson to Woodstock\, NY with Lichen Bike Tours
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_class=”teammateRow”][vc_column width=”1/4″ el_class=”teammateImage”][vc_single_image image=”75196″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” css=”” image_hovers=”false”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″ el_class=”teammateDescription”][vc_column_text css=””] \nThis event is hosted by Bikepacking Roots Regional Steward Tyler Burton. \n2 days riding to the Catskills with a night of camping in Overlook Mountain Wild Forest outside Woodstock\, NY.\n  \nThis weekend adventure is for riders who enjoy moderate hills and are willing to do one big climb up Macdaniel Rd at the end of the day on Saturday. We are camping halfway up Overlook Mountain\, but get ready because the final 6 miles up to the campsite is around 1000ft of climbing. \nSunday AM we go straight down that hill the steep way on Meads Mountain Rd (not the way we climb). On Sunday the return journey is 32 miles\, 1300ft climbing\, so Day 2 is much less strenuous compared to Saturday’s totals of 36 miles\, 3000ft climbing. \nMeal planning is kept easy with food stops in the town of Woodstock. Helmets and strong brakes required. We will have one night of primitive camping in the public forest preserve at dispersed sites. There are no facilities\, except for 2 portapotties a quarter mile from our campsite. Everyone is responsible for carrying their own shelter and sleep systems that you need to be comfortable and warm. Challenge yourself to finish this one-of-a-kind adventure! \nThe 2026 Edition of the Cross Florida Kings Road will begin on October 24th at 7:06 am\, Civil Twilight. This year\, we have three routes available: \nThe Kings Road — 210 mi +- \nThe King’s Road XL — 333 mi +- \nThe HoLaTa Loop — 410 mi +- \nAll routes will roll out from the Jena Boat Ramp. The C2C routes end on the Atlantic coast\, on the beach as close to the Flagler pier as possible. The Loop route ends where it began. \nThe group start will be draft-legal and will challenge riders to complete the course as quickly as possible\, though riders are free to complete the challenge without cut-offs or time limits. \nThis is a self-supported ride; there are no sag wagons\, and no support vehicles are allowed. Riders must maintain this self-supported status throughout the event. \nYour registration of 80$ includes the route information\, a trail guide\, a resource waypoint file\, one souvenir\, and access to all the routes. Routes will be released on August 15th\, and once the information is sent\, no refunds or transfers will be available. Tracking will be provided by Trackleaders\, and it is at that time that riders will choose which route they want to ride. There are only two categories available: solo and team. It is at the time of Trackleaders registration that you would choose the team option if that’s how you decided to tackle the route. \nThere will be a shuttle available; spots are limited to the first 50 folks who register for this option. The shuttle will pick up riders in Flagler Beach on or before 11 am on the 23rd and transport riders to Steinhatchee. The designated parking spot for shuttle riders is approximately 1 mile from the finish line. The price of the shuttle is 140$\, add that ticket option to your cart to secure your spot. Shuttle spots are refundable as long as it’s canceled 3 weeks before the event starts. \n\nSince there is no cut-off time\, riders can choose to ride the route as fast as they want or tour it at their leisure. It is intended as a chill weekend of bikepacking with friends\, and is an excellent option for experienced mountain bikers for their first bikepacking adventure. Riders will start together and camp together\, but are encouraged to ride their own pace and are expected to navigate for themselves. \nBIKE/EQUIPMENT:\nAny All Terrain Bicycle with adequate tire clearance will work\, suspension not necessary. Larger\, TUBELESS tires (2.3”+) are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for getting through long\, sandy sections and contending with plenty of cholla and other tube-popping pokies. If you choose to ride tubed tires or narrower tires\, you are committing to a lot of walking with your bike.\nIt is recommended to start the ride with a minimum of 4L of water. Review the POIs for water re-fill locations. There are sections with no cellular service – please have the route downloaded. \nTHE COMMUNITY EVENT:\nThe Ranchita Rambler Grand Depart is not a race\, but you can ride fast if you want to. Riders will start together and camp together\, but are encouraged to ride their own pace and are expected to navigate for themselves. \nROUTE DESCRIPTION:\nThis fall-spring season route starts and ends in Ranchita\, CA (at the former site of the Ranchita Bodega) and after warming up the legs with some early spicy climbs through the Ranchita foothills\, the route explores a rippin’\, sandy descent down Grapevine Canyon to the Anza Borrego Desert where riders then take up the pavement (caution\, narrow shoulder) to connect at Cactus Valley double track\, one of the prettiest sections of trail in the Valley\, especially at golden hour. A few more miles of pavement\, this time with a wide shoulder and minimal traffic\, takes riders by some the famous Borrego Springs metal sculptures. \nRiders will camp together in a group site at Borrego Palm Canyon Campground (CA State Park) where flush toilets and coin operated hot showers are a nice touch\, but no match for the epic night sky. Quintessential California style burritos are along the way to camp in the town of Borrego Springs\, as well as other local resupply options such as restaurants\, a grocery store\, and a mini-mart. \nFor non-grand depart campers\, Hike-in/Bike-in sites are available at Palm Canyon Campground for $5/person/night\, no reservation required. \nDay 2 offers riders the option to eat in camp\, have breakfast in town\, or start up the iconic Montezuma Valley Road also called the “Glass Elevator” for its incredible views along the 3\,300′ ascent. There’s no shame in taking (many) breaks to take in the massive vistas as the desert floor is left behind. (Please note that this segment has a narrow shoulder and is windy. Traffic is generally light and calm in the early morning hours\, but please use caution.) This climb can get hot fast with its eastern exposure – early starts are recommended in warm weather. \nRiders ditch the pavement about 2/3 of the way up and are routed through the Culp Valley Cultural Preserve. This somewhat sandy double track is absolutely gorgeous and peaceful. The Culp Valley Overlook offers views all the way out to the Salton Sea and has multiple educational and interpretive sites worth stopping for. If riders are not having fun with the often sandy trails\, Culp Valley can be bypassed by staying on the pavement all the way back to the start. The pavement bypass is steep and probably the same level of physical exertion as Culp Valley. \nRiders end back at the start in the town of Ranchita.\nAs of August 2025 the Ranchita BODEGA\, the only store in town\, is currently for sale and not operational at this time. It would be worth stashing a post-ride snack in your car since there isn’t anything else in close proximity. Next food is Josie’s Hideout or Lake Henshaw Cafe on Hwy 78 or the town of Warner Springs gas station on Hwy 79. \nSurvey results from the 2023 Ranchita Rambler are available in the photos to give riders more context on perceived difficulty and level of enjoyment. \nThis event is part of Bikepacking Root’s Community Event Calendar\, where we share bikepacking events across the US and Canada. Plus\, the whole Bikepacking Roots staff team will be there\, along with some additional board members! \n\n\nDangerbird is the annual kick-off event to bikepack the Monumental Loop\, a Bikepacking Root’s Route\, – the informal route that connects all parts of the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument. This event started out with community bikers and now has expanded to inviting bikepackers from across New Mexico\, across the United States\, and even a few from across the Atlantic!  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Monumental Loop is a love letter to the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument. OMDP is  half a million acres of protected landscape is separated into four parts: the Organ Mountains\, the Doña Anas\, the Sierra de Las Uvas\, and the Portrillos. Local mountain bikers and recreationists created the 250 mile Monumental Loop as a way to connect all four parts\, making an informal route that highlights amazing features of OMDP. Every year\, we organize an annual ride for bikepackers\, and local cyclists to experience the entirety of this monument our community worked for years to protect through federal designation. \n\n\nIs Dangerbird right for you?\n\n\n\n\nDangerbird is a self-supported bikepacking event\, which can be physically and mentally demanding. We recommend participants to have experience riding long distances and be comfortable being self sufficient for multiple days. \nThis route travels through remote areas where cell service is limited and desert conditions can change quickly. This time\, we’re crossing the U.P. boarder and riding our friend Dave Schlabowske’s route Wild Watersmeet. We’ve got a big year of bikepacking planned\, so we think we’ve earned a little bit of a celebration.\n\nWe will congregate at the Ahnapee trailhead in Algoma and begin riding the trail to Sturgeon Bay\, where we’ll ride to our site and setup the tents/hammocks before heading into town for food and drinks at the establishment of our choice.
