SUMMARY:2025 Forgotten Florida Bikepacking Tour with Karlos Bernart (SingleTrack Samurai) in Florida

Eventually\, the group will cap the evening with a Stay at Scouts Lodge\, offering select riders an opportunity to sleep indoors. \nDay 3 starts early as the group will make its way into the big bend and explore one of the most beautiful segments available along the Forgotten Coast. \nThe estimated Mileage for the trip is 216 miles. \nDay 1 65~miles (due to damage at Dowling Park this mileage may Increase but not decrease) \nDay 2 83~miles Day 1 65~miles (due to damage at Dowling Park this mileage may Decrease but not Increase) \nDay 3 68~miles \nThis year\, seven riders will have the option to sleep inside on both nights\, and five additional riders will have the option of sleeping inside on night 2. \nThere are only 45 total spots available. \nEveryone gets dinner and drinks Saturday night\, breakfast Sunday Morning\, and a commemorative patch. \nRoute info will be shared on March 13th\, after that\, there are no Refunds. \nClick Here to see Some pictures from the route. \nWatch Pedal Powers recap video from last year here. \nCan’t join the group for the route? This Trip will be led by Jacob and David. \nThis trip does have some challenges to it (sandy loose terrain\, 1 guaranteed water fill). The organizers call it intermediate level and is not advisable as a first-time bike-packing trip. \nThe terrain is mostly gravel roads with some rough and sandy sections. The organizers recommend a minimum of 50mm tires. \nThe group will be riding about 30 miles out to campsite 82 and then about 30 miles back the next day\, passing through Arivaca. \nThe ride will be self-supported and there is no plan for a sag wagon to join us. There will not be water at camp however there is water and restrooms available about 6 miles before camp as well as a sometimes source 2 miles beyond the camp on the second day. The organizers recommend carrying 4 to 6 liters of water. There is also an option of a 20-mile out and back to Sasabe (Where the hell is Sasabe?) at the end of the first day for those who want a little more. \nThe ride will be passing through the borderlands. This is an area of heavy human migration and the organizers recommend reading this article from Sarah Swallow’s Sky Islands page and scrolling down to the “Borders and Human Migration” section and reading through the 3 articles and familiarizing yourselves. If you would like to get involved the organizers recommend that you check out No More Deaths and send them some Donations! \nCampfire Cycling will be contacting everyone who signs up for the ride to make sure they are prepared for the ride. \nParking meeting at the start of the route along West Arivaca Rd. and meeting at 9 AM on Saturday. We’ll have a few of the classics from the last 3 years\, and perhaps a couple new routes we’d love to share with you too… \nAs usual\, all of these overnighters are open invite\, free\, no registration needed\, just show up\, there are no sag or support vehicles (don’t worry\, one of us usually tries to ride caboose\, making sure nobody gets left behind)\, the pace is super chill\, and we like to stop to regroup\, and swim in rivers and lakes. \nThese trips are self-supported\, and the camping is usually dispersed\, which means you’ll need a water filter\, food\, sleep system\, and a way to bury your own poop (trowel). \nWe TRY to make these rides beginner-friendly\, (50 miles/5000ft or less for the whole weekend)\, but this can be remote riding in the mountains\, usually on gravel\, and sometimes on singletrack\, occasionally rugged. \nWe all wear helmets and hope you will too. The first campout of the year is the weekend of April 19 & 20 🏕 🚲 \n🌼Last year\, campouts filled up quickly and had long waitlists. To create a more accessible registration process\, we’re introducing a lottery system. This will give more folks a chance to attend and help ensure that spots are distributed more equitably. \n🎟️To enter into the lottery for the April trip fill out the reg form linked in our bio. Registration for this trip will be open from 3-15 to 3-19. \n🗺️ This month’s route is a multimodal favorite utilizing metrolink\, neighborhood trails\, state park gravel roads\, rails to trails\, and bike paths. The full route is 55 miles with +2700 ft gain and is 47% unpaved. A gravel\, atb\, rigid mtb\, or touring bike with dirt tires 40mm or larger is ideal. \n🐺 We give this route our Wolf rating as it is between 25 and 55 miles each day and day elevation. It is mostly rolling terrain\, with a few sustained climbs and some short punchy grades that may require hike-a-bike. Day 2 is mostly flat with a large amount of paved bike path. \n🦎The terrain\, both days gets the Lizard (dirt & gravel ) rating. Unpaved surfaces range from hard pact to gravel/sand with some rutted and steep up/down sections. Day 1 is a mix of fire roads and double track and tiny bit of blue rated single track\, the paved surfaces both days are primarily bike paths or bike lanes. \n🌻All riders are responsible for themselves and their decisions. This is a guided bike camping trip\, but there is no sag or outside support on this ride for gear. \n💸We are asking for a sliding scale donation of $15- $30 for this trip. Your donation covers the camping fees and helps support our campout program & gear library. . \n💕WWCC is an intentional space to celebrate\, connect\, and center ALL gender-expansive and women riders while creating and expanding pedal powered access to the outdoors. \n🦄*This event is for and by gender-expansive and women riders who identify as trans\, women\, non-binary\, gender and all that identify outside of the gender binary. Join Lichen Bike Tours on this early-season cycling and wilderness camping adventure.  \nThis trip is 4 days and 3 nights\, 200 miles\, and 15\,000+ ft of climbing with 2 sections of hike-a-bike through high passes in the Catskill Mountains.  \nEach night of camping is in wild forest without any toilets or water facilities.  \nThis is a self-supported bikepacking trip\, which means that riders are responsible for carrying their shelter\, sleep\, and cook systems.  \nRide as a group with a sweep so that nobody will be dropped. The route has designated re-group spots so that it doesn’t get too spread out.  \nThis route is strenuous\, but also carefully designed to be ridable. There are zero days of 5000 ft+ climbing\, and just two days of 4000 ft+ climbing. \nEach day has at least one stop in a town for food and groceries.  \nThe Hike-a-Bike section in Sundown Wild Forest is not steep and could be ridden. We will have a support vehicle at our campsite to supply water for day 2\, but riders are expected to carry all their own gear and enough water for 1 day. \n🚲 This route is recommended on a hardtail mountain bike\, but rideable on a full suspension or gravel bike with a minimum of 42 mm tires. Ride what you’ve got! \n⛺️ The organizers recommend previous camping/backpacking experience\, as the campsite will require pitching tents on slickrock and backcountry camping with no access to services. \n🤝 The organizers will host a virtual planning session a few weeks before the ride to discuss the route\, packing your bike\, and making sure you have necessary gear. Routes will follow gravel roads as much as possible. This will be a self-supported ride following the ethics of other bikepacking events like The Adirondack Trail Ride\, Vermont Super 8\, Catskill Bikepacking Route\, or the Tour Divide – meaning it’s an unmarked route\, with no sag wagon\, no planned feed stations\, etc\, but you can utilize any publicly available services. One difference from other events is that we are encouraging riders to go slow and ride together in groups. Riders of all three route options are encouraged to camp together the first night (about halfway through the short route or about 60-70 miles in for the other routes) in a private group campsite. \nRiders who wish to push themselves physically and mentally\, may choose to do so\, but will need to agree to be safe about it and be respectful of everyone they encounter en route – especially on rail trails where cyclists need to yield to all other users. \nIf you want friends and family to be able to follow your progress in real-time\, we’ll have the routes on Trackleaders and facilitate SPOT rental (about $85) or the PING phone app (about $15). But riders aren’t required to do this unless you want your time posted on our upcoming website. If you don’t use a tracker and would like to be listed as “completed” just let us know after you finish the ride. \nThe following routes are approximate. We will be ground-truthing and finalizing the routes in early April. But for planning purposes\, a burly gravel bike or a svelte mountain bike would be ideal. Note that the long route follows medium route until mile 135.
