It is advisable to bring enough food for Friday evening\, Saturday morning and road food for Saturday morning at least. \nSuggested Itinerary \n\nPeople ride from Ottawa on Friday (April 25 or May 2) to a designated camping spot  15 kms from the Champlain Bridge\nFriday camping – participants carry and prepare their own food and drink – bikepacker social in pavilion or around campfire\nThe Saturday ride will pass through Stittsville\, Carleton Place\, Almonte & Pakenham – informal group/individual 89 km ride. A shorter option of ~65 km is available.\nSaturday camping – participants carry and prepare their own food (food from the bbq may be available with pre-order TBD) – beer and non-alcoholic beverages available for purchase on site – bikepacker social. There is a flush toilet and a shower. Bring a tarp if you think you will need overhead cover\, eg.\, in case of rain.\nSunday ride to Ottawa via Arnprior\, Carp & Kanata- Did we say coffee in Arnprior?!?!  Informal group/individual ride ~75 kms with option to shorten (distance back to Friday night camp 65 kms)\nThe link to the updated RWGPS route will be shared once riders have confirmed their participation closer to the date.\nFor out of town riders: It will be possible to drive to the camp spot Friday night\, park for the weekend and ride back to your vehicle Sunday afternoon. Free parking available at the campground.\n\nExperience has shown that the LDW Spring Rallies attract a diverse group of riders for a fun-filled weekend of bikepacking adventure. They are an accessible way to learn more about bikepacking by doing it\, and provide opportunities for a rich exchange across different circles of riders. \nTo keep the “family & friends” vibe going and to avoid overwhelming the facilities at the campgrounds\, each weekend will have a maximum of 35 spots. Join Lichen Bike Tours on this early-season cycling and wilderness camping adventure.  \nThis trip is 4 days and 3 nights\, 200 miles\, and 15\,000+ ft of climbing with 2 sections of hike-a-bike through high passes in the Catskill Mountains.  \nEach night of camping is in wild forest without any toilets or water facilities.  \nThis is a self-supported bikepacking trip\, which means that riders are responsible for carrying their shelter\, sleep\, and cook systems.  \nRide as a group with a sweep so that nobody will be dropped. The route has designated re-group spots so that it doesn’t get too spread out.  \nThis route is strenuous\, but also carefully designed to be ridable. There are zero days of 5000 ft+ climbing\, and just two days of 4000 ft+ climbing. \nEach day has at least one stop in a town for food and groceries.  \nThe Hike-a-Bike section in Sundown Wild Forest is not steep and could be ridden. The Hike-a-Bike section in Halcott Mountain Wild Forest is steep\, but on wide former doubletrack\, and therefore persistence is enough to hike your bike through the pass.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Spring Bikepacking Weekend with RAR.Moab in Utah
DESCRIPTION:Join RAR Moab for a beginner / intermediate bikepacking weekend! \n🗓️ Saturday May 3rd – Sunday May 4th in Valley of the Gods \n🚵‍♀️ The group will be riding a 50 mile out-and-back route with 5\,000 ft of climbing on rough dirt roads (25 miles each day). We will have a support vehicle at our campsite to supply water for day 2\, but riders are expected to carry all their own gear and enough water for 1 day. \n🚲 This route is recommended on a hardtail mountain bike\, but rideable on a full suspension or gravel bike with a minimum of 42 mm tires. Ride what you’ve got! \n⛺️ The organizers recommend previous camping/backpacking experience\, as the campsite will require pitching tents on slickrock and backcountry camping with no access to services. \n🤝 The organizers will host a virtual planning session a few weeks before the ride to discuss the route\, packing your bike\, and making sure you have necessary gear. RAR Moab will try to help connect riders to loaner gear as much as possible. This is a beginner/intermediate friendly route for those comfortable with longer day rides. \n📝Limited to 15 spots! Routes will follow gravel roads as much as possible. This will be a self-supported ride following the ethics of other bikepacking events like The Adirondack Trail Ride\, Vermont Super 8\, Catskill Bikepacking Route\, or the Tour Divide – meaning it’s an unmarked route\, with no sag wagon\, no planned feed stations\, etc\, but you can utilize any publicly available services. One difference from other events is that we are encouraging riders to go slow and ride together in groups. Riders of all three route options are encouraged to camp together the first night (about halfway through the short route or about 60-70 miles in for the other routes) in a private group campsite. \nRiders who wish to push themselves physically and mentally\, may choose to do so\, but will need to agree to be safe about it and be respectful of everyone they encounter en route – especially on rail trails where cyclists need to yield to all other users. \nIf you want friends and family to be able to follow your progress in real-time\, we’ll have the routes on Trackleaders and facilitate SPOT rental (about $85) or the PING phone app (about $15). But riders aren’t required to do this unless you want your time posted on our upcoming website. If you don’t use a tracker and would like to be listed as “completed” just let us know after you finish the ride. \nThe following routes are approximate. We will be ground-truthing and finalizing the routes in early April. But for planning purposes\, a burly gravel bike or a svelte mountain bike would be ideal. We’ll have a quick riders meeting at 10 am sharp\, roll out promptly\, then leave the capitalist constraints of “time” behind for the weekend. \nThis is self-supported overnight bikecamping on about 75% dirt/25% paved\, riding up to Whiskytown Lake (for a swim if it’s hot enough) and then camping on a gorgeous creek. Total for the weekend is 55 mi. +5460ft. \nDay two will be over a lot of flowy\, narrow singletrack\, so we recommend the fattest tires you can jam in your gravel bike. \nBring your own food\, sleep system\, water filter\, and a way to bury your own poop (trowel). As always\, this is a casual\, open-invite trip. No sag\, and no registration or money required\, but we’ll do our best to make sure nobody is left behind or stranded. We all wear helmets and ask that you do as well. \nThese rides are at a conversational pace\, and we stick together.
