Gear use is first-come\, first-served\, but we strive to accommodate all requests. \nResources\, such as trained guides and bikes for youth with disabilities\, are available. Please contact us if you are interested. \nLodging: We will tent camp at the Camp Sullivan campground; a cabin is available in case of inclement weather. \nPace: 7-10 mph. Please contact us if you are interested. \nTrip Description\nExplore the beauty of our extensive forest preserves in the Southwest Burbs! First\, we will ride through the southside neighborhoods of Brainerd\, Beverly\, and Mt. Greenwood\, then hit the Cal Sag Trail\, and then finish on the forest preserve trails. We will take plenty of breaks along the route\, including a picnic stop\, before arriving at Camp Sullivan. \nBecause our rides celebrate this beautiful corner of the earth we call home\, we acknowledge the many people who have lived here before us\, including the Council of the Three Fires–comprised of the Ojibwe\, Odawa\, and Potawatomi Nations–as well as the Miami\, Ho-Chunk\, Menominee\, Sac\, Fox\, Kickapoo\, and Illinois Nations. OOFD seeks to promote Indigenous perspectives in all we do. This ride is a celebratory expression of this goal. They have love and appreciation for their home and like sharing knowledge about that home with others\, thus helping the riders to develop a stronger sense of gratitude for our local history and nature. \nThe guides will be set with the route and an extensive script about the area you’ll be riding through with intentionally chosen breakpoints along the way. \nThey are more than someone to follow on the ride. They are trained and will be there to encourage and support you as well as support with mechanicals that may arise. \nTransfer/Refund/Cancellation Policy\nParticipant Cancellation: No Refunds. By registering\, you acknowledge and agree there will not be a refund if you cancel or do not show up for the event. Tickets cannot be resold. \nTransfers: You can transfer three days before the event. You can only transfer to an event in the same calendar year. Fill out this transfer form at least three days before your ride departs\, and we will follow up in a week or less with instructions on how to register for your new event. Contact us if you have any issues. \nOrganizer Cancellation: Full Refund | Nobody wants an event to be canceled. In the rare circumstance the organizer cancels the event at their discretion\, registered participants will receive a full refund. To date\, this organization has canceled minimal events. \nWeather and Rain: We do not cancel an event for rain\, storm\, or any other weather. We ride rain or shine. Chicago weather is typically passing\, if the weather requires\, we will pause the ride and wait in a sheltered space then continue biking. Challenge yourself to finish this one-of-a-kind adventure! \nThe 2026 Edition of the Cross Florida Kings Road will begin on October 24th at 7:06 am\, Civil Twilight. This year\, we have three routes available: \nThe Kings Road — 210 mi +- \nThe King’s Road XL — 333 mi +- \nThe HoLaTa Loop — 410 mi +- \nAll routes will roll out from the Jena Boat Ramp. The C2C routes end on the Atlantic coast\, on the beach as close to the Flagler pier as possible. The Loop route ends where it began. \nThe group start will be draft-legal and will challenge riders to complete the course as quickly as possible\, though riders are free to complete the challenge without cut-offs or time limits. \nThis is a self-supported ride; there are no sag wagons\, and no support vehicles are allowed. Riders must maintain this self-supported status throughout the event. \nYour registration of 80$ includes the route information\, a trail guide\, a resource waypoint file\, one souvenir\, and access to all the routes. Routes will be released on August 15th\, and once the information is sent\, no refunds or transfers will be available. Tracking will be provided by Trackleaders\, and it is at that time that riders will choose which route they want to ride. There are only two categories available: solo and team. It is at the time of Trackleaders registration that you would choose the team option if that’s how you decided to tackle the route. \nThere will be a shuttle available; spots are limited to the first 50 folks who register for this option. The shuttle will pick up riders in Flagler Beach on or before 11 am on the 23rd and transport riders to Steinhatchee. The designated parking spot for shuttle riders is approximately 1 mile from the finish line. The price of the shuttle is 140$\, add that ticket option to your cart to secure your spot. Shuttle spots are refundable as long as it’s canceled 3 weeks before the event starts. \n\nSince there is no cut-off time\, riders can choose to ride the route as fast as they want or tour it at their leisure. It is intended as a chill weekend of bikepacking with friends\, and is an excellent option for experienced mountain bikers for their first bikepacking adventure. Riders will start together and camp together\, but are encouraged to ride their own pace and are expected to navigate for themselves. \nBIKE/EQUIPMENT:\nAny All Terrain Bicycle with adequate tire clearance will work\, suspension not necessary. Larger\, TUBELESS tires (2.3”+) are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for getting through long\, sandy sections and contending with plenty of cholla and other tube-popping pokies. If you choose to ride tubed tires or narrower tires\, you are committing to a lot of walking with your bike.\nIt is recommended to start the ride with a minimum of 4L of water. Review the POIs for water re-fill locations. There are sections with no cellular service – please have the route downloaded. \nTHE COMMUNITY EVENT:\nThe Ranchita Rambler Grand Depart is not a race\, but you can ride fast if you want to. It is intended as a chill weekend of bikepacking with friends\, and is an excellent option for experienced mountain bikers for their first bikepacking adventure. Riders will start together and camp together\, but are encouraged to ride their own pace and are expected to navigate for themselves. \nROUTE DESCRIPTION:\nThis fall-spring season route starts and ends in Ranchita\, CA (at the former site of the Ranchita Bodega) and after warming up the legs with some early spicy climbs through the Ranchita foothills\, the route explores a rippin’\, sandy descent down Grapevine Canyon to the Anza Borrego Desert where riders then take up the pavement (caution\, narrow shoulder) to connect at Cactus Valley double track\, one of the prettiest sections of trail in the Valley\, especially at golden hour. A few more miles of pavement\, this time with a wide shoulder and minimal traffic\, takes riders by some the famous Borrego Springs metal sculptures. \nRiders will camp together in a group site at Borrego Palm Canyon Campground (CA State Park) where flush toilets and coin operated hot showers are a nice touch\, but no match for the epic night sky. Quintessential California style burritos are along the way to camp in the town of Borrego Springs\, as well as other local resupply options such as restaurants\, a grocery store\, and a mini-mart. \nFor non-grand depart campers\, Hike-in/Bike-in sites are available at Palm Canyon Campground for $5/person/night\, no reservation required. \nDay 2 offers riders the option to eat in camp\, have breakfast in town\, or start up the iconic Montezuma Valley Road also called the “Glass Elevator” for its incredible views along the 3\,300′ ascent. There’s no shame in taking (many) breaks to take in the massive vistas as the desert floor is left behind. (Please note that this segment has a narrow shoulder and is windy. Traffic is generally light and calm in the early morning hours\, but please use caution.) This climb can get hot fast with its eastern exposure – early starts are recommended in warm weather. \nRiders ditch the pavement about 2/3 of the way up and are routed through the Culp Valley Cultural Preserve. This somewhat sandy double track is absolutely gorgeous and peaceful. The Culp Valley Overlook offers views all the way out to the Salton Sea and has multiple educational and interpretive sites worth stopping for. If riders are not having fun with the often sandy trails\, Culp Valley can be bypassed by staying on the pavement all the way back to the start. The pavement bypass is steep and probably the same level of physical exertion as Culp Valley. \nRiders end back at the start in the town of Ranchita.\nAs of August 2025 the Ranchita BODEGA\, the only store in town\, is currently for sale and not operational at this time. It would be worth stashing a post-ride snack in your car since there isn’t anything else in close proximity. Plus\, the whole Bikepacking Roots staff team will be there\, along with some additional board members! \n\n\nDangerbird is the annual kick-off event to bikepack the Monumental Loop\, a Bikepacking Root’s Route\, – the informal route that connects all parts of the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument. This event started out with community bikers and now has expanded to inviting bikepackers from across New Mexico\, across the United States\, and even a few from across the Atlantic!  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Monumental Loop is a love letter to the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument. OMDP is  half a million acres of protected landscape is separated into four parts: the Organ Mountains\, the Doña Anas\, the Sierra de Las Uvas\, and the Portrillos. Local mountain bikers and recreationists created the 250 mile Monumental Loop as a way to connect all four parts\, making an informal route that highlights amazing features of OMDP. Every year\, we organize an annual ride for bikepackers\, and local cyclists to experience the entirety of this monument our community worked for years to protect through federal designation. \n\n\nIs Dangerbird right for you?\n\n\n\n\nDangerbird is a self-supported bikepacking event\, which can be physically and mentally demanding. The atmosphere will be supportive and non-competitive\, with the goal of sharing bikepacking and creating a safe and inclusive opportunity to bikepack. A camp vehicle will meet us at camp\, but this is an unguided ride. You bring your bike\, gear\, food and self-sufficient riding skills and we’ll bring the community and camaraderie. \n This route is for novice riders with the ability to ride 25 miles over several hours. Join the Grand Depart\, Race or Party Pace\, you choose. \n—>See photos from our scouting ride here<– \nGet ready for an unforgettable bikepacking Ultra experience right from the heart of Thomasville\, Georgia! The MSG is a spectacular 180-mile gravel bikepacking route that promises an immersive experience in the Red Hills of Middle Southern Georgia. \nThis incredible loop starts and finishes at Paradise Park\, just minutes from Hubs and Hops\, the source of all cool cycling things in Thomasville. From here\, you’ll embark on a true gravel grinding adventure\, navigating miles of iconic red clay roads that make up the Red Hills corridor. \nThis isn’t just a ride; it’s a journey through the picturesque agricultural heartland of Mid-South Georgia\, offering a glimpse into its unique natural beauty and rural charm. \nThis is a self-supported challenge. There are no SAG stops or SAG wagons. Each participant is on their own throughout this adventure. Riders who have registered for this adventure will receive the route information on August 15th. Once the information is sent\, no refunds are available. Information will be shared via an RWGPS event link\, which will include waypoints for recommended resupply and possible camps. There will be a group camp at Reed Bingham State Park with snacks and beverages for all. All riders who attend the ride will receive a commemorative patch. Tracking will be provided by Trackleaders.com; riders can use their own device or have the opportunity to rent. It’s here where riders will have a chance to explore the Dead River Sink. This geologically unique location is where the Alapaha River goes underground and resurfaces miles later in two separate spots. One of the main features of this ride is that you will get to see the places where the river disappears and reemerges. \nNight 2 will be spent at Camp Suwannee\, where riders will have the opportunity to either camp or sleep in the communal bunkhouse. \nBoth camps will have access to hot showers\, potable water\, and electricity. No vehicle support. \nLodging: Heated cabins (bunk bed style). Camping is an option if you prefer. We will stay at Camp Reinberg (Cook County Forest Preserve) located at 1801 N Quentin Rd\, Palatine\, IL 60074 (map). \nPace: 12-15mph \nTrail/Route: Paved road with minimal gravel incorporated and possible snow. \nAge: Adult Ride (21+) \nTrip Description\nYou know you can’t wait til April to do another bike camping overnight trip. You’ll be pedaling along through memories of mass transit’s past\, along beautiful bubbling creeks\, witnessing some of the region’s most unique ecologies. Wildlife sightings are a near guarantee! You’ll cruise by riverbeds and marvel at the big blue unsalted sea of Lake Michigan. If the weather cooperates\, all of this splendor will be draped in a crisp white blanket. \nThroughout it all\, our guides will be recalling stories of the dreams and plans of Chicago men and women whose modest yet hard work is to thank for the preservation of the Blue Basin’s natural beauty. Take a break from your winter hibernation and venture out with us on a frosty December ride. \nYou and your bike certainly can make it! Celebrate a winter’s adventure in the comforts of a heated cabin\, with hot dinner and a steamy oatmeal breakfast included. Will I learn something? Will there be community? Will I have Fun? Yes. Yes. and Yes. So celebrate the winter season and meet some new people. They have love and appreciation for their home and like sharing knowledge about that home with others\, thus helping the riders to develop a stronger sense of gratitude for our local history and nature. \nThe guides will be set with the route and an extensive script about the area you’ll be riding through with intentionally chosen breakpoints along the way. \nThey are more than someone to follow on the ride. They are trained and will be there to encourage and support you as well as support with mechanicals that may arise. \nTransfer/Refund/Cancellation Policy\nParticipant Cancellation: No Refunds. By registering\, you acknowledge and agree there will not be a refund if you cancel or do not show up for the event. Tickets cannot be resold. \nTransfers: You can transfer three days before the event. You can only transfer to an event in the same calendar year. Fill out this transfer form at least three days before your ride departs\, and we will follow up in a week or less with instructions on how to register for your new event. Contact us if you have any issues. \nOrganizer Cancellation: Full Refund | Nobody wants an event to be canceled. In the rare circumstance the organizer cancels the event at their discretion\, registered participants will receive a full refund. To date\, this organization has canceled minimal events. \nWeather and Rain: We do not cancel an event for rain\, storm\, or any other weather. We ride rain or shine. Chicago weather is typically passing\, if the weather requires\, we will pause the ride and wait in a sheltered space then continue biking.
