You can view the route here. \nIt’s a chance to: \nExperience the beauty of Louisiana’s only National Forest \nEnjoy a campout at the beautiful Valentine Lake. \nMake new bikepacking friends and build community. \nExpand or develop your bikepacking skills. \nConnect with a Bikepacking Roots Community Steward. \nWho should attend: \nThis route is for all\, including beginner riders with the ability to ride 25 miles over several hours with some climbing. The route does not include any singletrack and can be done on any gravel or mountain bike without issue.  \nThe route is 45.1 miles over the two days\, and is 60% unpaved\, 40% paved roads. Day one is 24.4 miles with 1\,005 ft of elevation gain and 937 ft of elevation loss. Day two is 20.7 miles with 917 ft of elevation gain and 984 ft of elevation loss.  \nThis event is for everyone interested in or who loves bikepacking. The atmosphere will be supportive and non-competitive\, with the goal of sharing bikepacking and creating a safe and inclusive opportunity to bikepack. A camp vehicle will meet us at camp\, but this is an unguided ride. You bring your bike\, gear\, food and self-sufficient riding skills and we’ll bring the community and camaraderie. \nHere is a suggested packing list. SUMMARY:Cross Florida: The Spanish\, Fort Desoto to Saint Augustine with Karlos Bernart (SingleTrack Samurai)
DESCRIPTION:The Spanish Indian Trail is a coast-to-coast fat tire route created by Patrick Thomsen\, Matt Wiggins\, and Karlos Bernart. This year riders will travel from the east coast at Castillo De San Marco in Saint Augustine to finish at the West Coast in Fort DeSoto located in Saint Petersburg. The route is a Patchwork Quilt of singletrack\, forest roads\, double track\, grassy track\, bike paths\, and paved roads. This year there will be two options available\, a 520-mile odyssey and a 420-mile option. \nThe organizers will also offer a shuttle for riders this year. The shuttle will pick riders up at the finish in Fort DeSoto and transport riders to a location close to the start in Saint Augustine. Shuttle pick-up will be at 11 am on Friday\, January 3rd. If you want a spot on the shuttle\, choose that ticket option in addition to your route choice. \nEach ticket option provides riders with the route\, guide\, and resource information; once purchased\, this is non-refundable. Your shuttle ticket can be canceled as long as it’s four weeks before the 3rd of January. \nQuestions? SUMMARY:Huracan Bikepacking Challenge with Karlos Bernart (SingleTrack Samurai) in Florida
DESCRIPTION:The Huracan Bikepacking Challenge is the ULTIMATE OFF-ROAD ENDURANCE EXPERIENCE in the state of Florida. The Original route features over 100 miles of singletrack\, many remote miles of double-track forest roads and abandoned paths\, and a few miles of pavement here and there. During the route\, riders cross numerous forests\, The Cross Florida Greenway\, two mountain bike parks\, and miles of some of Florida’s longest and hardest climbs. That’s right; we said long and hard. \nRiders are on a self-contained and self-supported expedition on this magnificent mostly off-road route. \nThere are 3 route options available. \nOriginal HuRaCaN Route\,370 miles of the most challenging Florida terrain. Expect everything you have ever heard about the Huracan from all your friends\, with a few more surprises thrown in. This is the route everyone talks about. \nThe HuRaCaN Lite is a 330-mile route with almost no singletrack or river crossings. It will combine Dirt roads\, A-Roads\, B-Roads\, Bikepath\, and major roads. This is essentially a Skinnier tire friendlier version of the route. The minimum recommended tire width is 45MM. \nThe HuRaCaN 400\, is the hardest and most challenging conceptualization of the route that has ever been put together. This route premiered in 2024 it is also known as the What The F*** Route. \nWhat you are purchasing is the information to ride the route. This information is licensed per individual and cannot be transferred to another rider or refunded. Participating in self-supported off-road the grand depart is a benefit provided as a courtesy by the adventure coordinator and all folks who purchase the route information will get an invite. \nThis event is bounded by the rules of self-supported off-road endurance events with a few exceptions\, details will be provided closer to the grand depart. \nOnce you join the event\, riders can expect to start seeing the preliminary information delivered to their inbox on or before August 1st\, 2024. Information will be shared via an RWGPS event link for the route and Google Drive folder access for the guide and other important documents. In this presentation\, Jen and Eric\, the route developers of the Log Driver’s Waltz\, will use real examples from their planning and research as they prepare for bikepacking adventures. With a focus on the Log Driver’s Waltz Grand Depart & Spring Rallies and the Saint Lawrence Bikepacking Triple Crown\, they will cover a variety of topics such as: \n\nlocating resupply points\, accommodation and camping options\, water sources\, and other services\,\n​integrating distance\, elevation gain\, and surfaces to create a plan that fits the route\, the rider’s goals and experience\,\ndialing in your bike set-up: tires\, gearing\, etc\nConsiderations for sleep systems\,  nutrition\, and hydration\n\nNew and experienced riders alike are welcome to bring questions and contribute to the conversation as we further our learning together. \nIn 2024 Jen Adams and Eric Betteridge set the goal of completing the 2600 km St. Lawrence Bikepacking Triple Crown in one season. With three unique routes\, the pre-ride planning was a challenge in itself. Interspersed with anecdotes and photos from a summer of riding\, they will share what they learned about themselves\, their gear\, and their planning as they set about to complete the routes during the hottest summer on record.\n​They are route developers of the Log Driver’s Waltz and a dozen other bikepacking routes in the Ottawa and Gatineau Valleys. The group will be heading up toward Phoenix to ride Devin Balet’s Black Canyon Trail. It’s 76 miles and 4\,858′ feet of climbing (and descending) into pure joy. This will hopefully be one of our mellower advanced trips (lord knows I need it at this point). This is a one-way trip with some shuttling so even though the group will be doing shorter days on either end\, there will be some travel time. \nThe plan is to work out some neat carpooling to minimize impact as well as make shuttling a little easier. The group will meet at the bottom of the trailhead. On the first day\, the route will add a little upper lollipop and descend into the trail and camp a little before Bumblebee Ranch. On the 2nd day\, the group will stop for some resupply\, Ice Cream\, root beer floats\, pie\, and some dreaming in the grass in Rock Springs. Then will camp near the Agua Fria River. On the last day\, the group will cruise on out and finish the trip like champs. The maps will be slowly updated with camping spots and maybe some add-on miles and will be done before the ride. \nHere’s what you can anticipate by reading about the route\, as well as reading recent comments: Black Canyon Trail on Bikepacking.com. \nThis ride will be on the chiller side for an advanced trip but will have some challenges with rough terrain and sandy sections. The organizers recommend a hardtail mountain bike with big tires or a full suspension. A great trip for someone looking to step up to an advanced bikepacking trip with some potential bail-out spots near the highway. \nRide pace is ride at your own comfortable pace. This is not a race. Organizers generally ride at a party pace with many meetups and stops so everyone can re-group and enjoy the scenery. A steak dinner will be provided and after a good meal\, riders can do a night ride through the forest before heading back to the campsite. \nThis trip is limited to 14 spots and will cost $20 per person to cover food\, site rental\, and a donation to the forest service. This is our first time doing a three in one and it should make for a good time for all! \nIntermediate Route – 32 miles\nIntermediate and advanced route riders will be leaving Campfire Cycling at around 9:30 AM. This group will ride a paved bike path most of the way to Colossal Cave State Park. The route does have some rolling climbs over the last 5 miles. \nBeginner Route – 18 miles\nFor beginner bikepackers who are looking for a shorter version of the ride (18 miles instead of 32)\, we welcome you to join at mile 14 of our route at Fantasy Island’s north parking area (See Point-of-Interest on the route map). We will be joining with beginner riders at this point. This beginner section is similar in difficulty to our beginner ride that we do from Campfire to Catalina State Park in the Fall. \nAdvanced Route – 43 miles with AZT\nFor the advanced riders who would like to join\, organizers have come up with a new version that incorporates some AZT riding. The advanced group will part ways with the beginner and intermediate riders to navigate through Fantasy Island on the trails. The route splits off from the main route in Vail. The route here shows as 86 miles because it is the full out and back\, but to compare it to the other two routes\, it is 43 miles one way. While a good portion of this route is on pavement\, the AZT section does necessitate a sturdy mountain bike. The advanced group will likely be arriving at camp quite a bit later than the other groups\, perhaps as late as 6 or 7 pm\, please bring lighting in case we are riding later than anticipated. \nCamping\nThe group is staying at the Sevilla group campground with room for 20 tents. Drinking water and pit toilets are available. \nAbout Riding with Campfire\nOn our Community Events/Rides\, we follow our Campfire Code of Conduct. We strive to create a positive and supportive environment where everyone feels welcome and heard. We don’t assume anyone’s abilities based on outward appearance. We take responsibility for our actions and words. We respect the land\, and its original stewards and leave no trace. \nIf this is your first bikepacking trip\, we are here to help. If you like advice on gear needs or want any other advice we strongly recommend you stop by with your bike or pack up your bike for the trip and bring it by the shop so we can check out your setup and make recommendations as needed. Feel free to set up an appointment or just stop by. \nWhile this is a beginner-oriented bikepacking trip\, everyone is welcome. I’m sure all of the newbies will appreciate having experienced campers along for the ride.  It’s a great opportunity to do a shake-down run with new gear or a new to you setup as well as sharing experience\, knowledge\, and setups. \nThis will be a no-drop ride. We ride at a party pace with many stops and chances for regrouping as well as resupply. Campfire Cycling will also always have a mechanic at the back of the ride so no one is left behind in case trouble arises. There is also food available near the camp. \nPlease be prepared with all of your own camping gear\, food\, and water. This will be semi-remote camping without many supplies nearby. The campground has vault toilets and running water. There are businesses and a grocery store on the route with markets near the entrance/exit of the campground. The Tohono O’odham Tribe as well as many conservation groups have been fighting this mine for years. Organizers will have a spot to march in the South Side Irish Parade down Western Avenue with the OOFD banner! Everyone will gather at the start of the parade near 103rd and Western and walk/ride slowly our bike in the parade which ends at 115th Street and Western. Everyone can get creative and have fun waving to the all folks during the parade. \nOnce everyone reaches the end of the parade\, everyone can get some lunch\, and then ride out to Camp Sullivan in Oak Forest to camp\, which is about 12 miles from the end of the parade route. We’ll have dinner and enjoy a fire with some beverages and get up on Monday morning in our tents\, have a light breakfast\, and pedal back to Beverly\, where the parade started. From there\, you can likely join a group to ride back north or even catch a Metra or the Red Line train. \nFor the parade march\, the more the merrier! So there are lots of free tickets if you just want to come and walk with Our Our Front Door in the parade and head home that same day. DESCRIPTION:This event is hosted by Bikepacking Roots Regional Steward Kurt Pitts \nDates: March 22-23\, 2025 \nLocation: St Louis County\, Missouri \nJoin us for a free\, fun\, beginner friendly 45 mile paved loop around west St Louis County Missouri. This is a great chance to try out bikepacking just 25 minutes from downtown St. Louis! You can view the route here. \nIt’s a chance to: \nTake in some of the most scenic roads and greenways in Chesterfield and Wildwood. \nMake new bikepacking friends and build community. \nExpand or develop your bikepacking skills. \nConnect with a Bikepacking Roots Community Steward. \nWho should attend: \nThis event is open to all. This is a beginner friendly ride that is completely paved. We’ll be riding 10.5 miles of Greenway\, with the rest on low traffic public roads\, frequented by local cyclist. Day 1 is 22 miles with 940 ft of gain. Day 2 is 23.5 miles with 831 ft of gain. \nWe’ll be camping at a semi-primitive campsite with a pit latrine and a semi covered shelter for cooking meals and a fire\, but will be 1.5 miles from the visitors center and main camping area with access to water and restrooms. \nThe atmosphere will be supportive and non-competitive\, with the goal of sharing bikepacking and creating a safe and inclusive opportunity to bikepack.
