We will stay at Illinois Beach State Park (IL DNR) located at 1 Lake Front Dr\, Zion\, IL 60099 (map). \nItinerary:\nDay 1: 40 miles | Day 2: 55 miles\, or 2 miles with return on Metra \nSupport:Self-supported. Not vehicle support. \nTRIP DESCRIPTION\nGet ready for crisp\, cool air mornings and the smell of autumn\, as we tour the forests of Northeastern Illinois. \nA seasonal landscape\, where vast tracks of color flush red\, yellow and autumn bronze\, in the valley of the DesPlaines. A regional ride through the woods and prairies that lies beyond Chicago. But before we get there… house pumpkins\, gourds\, and cider fill the north shore communities\, as we travel north and feast our eyes upon architectural masterpieces. \nLearn about the towns\, the lay of the land\, and the unique ecosystems along the way\, as the guides drop knowledge on top of your noggins at each breakpoint. \nThe group will ride to and camp on the youngest land in the state at Illinois Beach State Park\, discover the Dead River\, go on a guided nature walk\, and learn what the Chicago area looked like before European settlement. And what better way to end the first day of riding than to relax around a campfire\, on a cool night with warm apple cider on the shores of Lake Michigan. \nDay two\, you can choose to do the 55-mile return along the Desplaines River Trail\, or just hop on the Metra train just outside the campground. There should be a creek near camp\, Ithe organizers will try to confirm prior to the camp out and report back. \nIf the weather is guaranteed crappy the organizer will likely announce their removal…of themselves but anyone is welcome to still go of course. DESCRIPTION:Detailed information about this year’s Nutmeg Nor’easter has been released by Ron’s Bikes. The following is from the 2024 Nutmeg Nor’easter Registration Announcement: \nanother world championship of sandal riding is upon us — the 8th annual! wow\, and our toes are still somewhat intact. this year\, like last year\, will be held at Dear Lake Camp in Killingworth Connecticut — enveloped in quaintness and it’s trappings. what deep pleasures in these soft times of bumpy bike rides! \nhere is some media from last year so you can get an idea of what you are getting into \nrons bikes coverage ::: the Radavist coverage ::: Bikepacking.com coverage ::: \nthe biggest change from years past is that there are no “nearly all you can eat” pizza tickets. a few slices is included with your reg for everyone — we pushed our pizza purveyors to the limits last year\, and still didn’t have enough — so we are bringing in more food for purchase from farmer Jess and other vendors. there will be plenty of vegan options for purchase also. \nother than that\, folks from last year should know what to expect (hopefully not more rain!). and folks who are new\, well\, hi! and read on for some details. \nCamp Options: there are Cabins and bunk houses on the premises\, lean-to shelters\, tent camping\, and car camping zones. camp sites and bunk cabins are first come first serve on Friday starting at NOON. \nGetting there: from NYC the metro north to New Haven\, transfer to shoreline east to Clinton. Dear Lake is 5 pleasant miles from the station. Roll on bike service and all. could do the same from Boston I suppose. you can always drive too — there will be plenty of parking\, but we always like to not have tooooo many cars involved. If flying\, Bradley International Airport (BDL) is an hour drive. \nroutes to the event: I make up a few country options each year from the New Haven train station and Clinton train station. Old Saybrook too if you are coming from Boston. those will be emailed by Thursday before the event. \nWhy this date?: this is the weekend when the last fall foliage of New England reaches it’s peak — a farewell in many ways. \nYard Sale Swa(m)p meet:  it’s 10 bucks extra at reg to sell bikes\, parts\, merch\, bespoke wooden dildos etc. There will be a special designated covered area for this part of the event in the great hall. 25 vendor tickets are available — 8ft folding table included. there will be wifi in this area this year to make electronic payments easier. \nClasses: We’ve had some good skill shares over the years — if you have a course you’d like to teach\, then reach out to Tenzin@ronsbikes.com \nFood: our olde friends Fire in the Kitchen will be tossing pizza pies for the 8th year in a row on Saturday night for the pizza party. there will be enough for everyone to have a few slices. We will have Jess from the farm and food trucks of sorts for Friday\, Saturday\, and Sunday too. there are Stop & Shops with decent natural foods sections nearby in both Madison CT and Clinton CT 5 miles from the event space. There will be camp fires and your camp stoves to cook other things and make coffee etc. \nCoffee: any baristas want to set up for espresso drinks? let me know. we will also have the giant percolators going as usual for this with less discerning tastes. \nWeather:  generally we want to expect cracker Jack 60-70 F and sunny with Southern New England fall foliage at its absolute peak gloriousness. that being said\, it can also be a deluge as we found out last year. you made it work! \nRain Date?:  nope! we made it through last year — rain or shine\, this spot has enough roofs and good folks to make it a time to be had regardless of weather.  It’s New England! \nToilets: there are a whole lot of them on the premises \nWater: there is potable well water at site \nShowers: bring some wet wipes! there are also showers on the premises\, and perhaps rain to stand out in. \nKid Friendly?: no kids\, sorry. \ne-bikes: no ebikes\, sorry. the trails do not allow them in the area. \nrefunds: sorry\, no refunds\, but if you need to transfer your reg to someone else\, you can do it via bike reg. \nRoutes: there will be 3-5 of them ranging from an easy country road spin with a stop at the beach to rugged class 4 roads and lots of trail that you might think is hiking trail because it is. I will post the routes the week before the event along with the suggested tire size. you can do as many of the routes as you’d like. \nAid stations: there will be no aid stations or external support once you leave the venue location. the gpx routes will be enriched with waypoints showing you where to get water and food while you are out\, but you are on your own for the most part. \nNavigation: highly recommend a head unit or some way to strap your phone to your handlebar as the courses will not be marked\, and there are a lot of turns and easy ways to get really turned around out there. I would not recommend anyone going out on one of the longer rides without a head unit. \nRegistration: OPEN NOW at bike reg \nhope everyone has a good month! stay tuned to reg emails for more\, and I will try and answer any questions in the comments.

DESCRIPTION:UPDATE: This trip is currently at capacity x 2 with a waitlist 😱 \n🍁 🚲 Last Wild Wolf campout of the year 🎃 🍂 \nThis 🐢 🐩 route takes riders from LA to Ventura via metrolink and from Ventura to Lake Casitas via the Ojai bike path and some rural roads with a small amount of sustained climbing. \nRoute stats:\n🐢 🐩 Day one is 23ish miles with 900ft elevation gain and 100% paved. \n🐢 🐩 Day two is 23ish miles with 500ft elevation gain and 100% paved. \nThis trip is first time camper and pannier/road bike friendly for riders comfortable with 25 mile days and a bit of hills. SUMMARY:Bike Camping with All Bodies On Bikes in Northwest Arkansas
DESCRIPTION:All Bodies On Bikes\, NW Arkansas for a bike camping overnighter! Starting near downtown Bentonville (exact location coming soon)\, the group will ride 6 miles on gravel to Bike Camp Pea Ridge and camp there overnight\, returning to the starting location in the morning. \nCampers need to bring all of their own camping gear\, however\, there will be some equipment available to loan if needed. Campers are encouraged to carry their own gear\, however a support vehicle will be available for any gear that isn’t able to be carried on your bicycle. \nAll Bodies on Bikes will provide the route\, light refreshments and snacks at camp\, campfire wood and s’mores supplies. Campers should bring their own dinner\, breakfast\, and snacks. This Southern California adventure offers a mix of sand\, mountains\, and stunning landscapes\, making it a prime weekend getaway. The route features diverse terrain\, delicious Mexican food\, a communal group camp\, the Culp Valley Cultural Preserve\, the Anza Borrego Desert State Park\, and the renowned Dark Sky Community. \nParticipants are encouraged to make a suggested $20 donation to help offset the campground reservation fee\, firewood\, and camp snacks. Emily Elliott is the contact person for the event and can be reached at emilyelliott43@gmail.com. \nThe Route and Experience \nThe Ranchita Rambler Grand Depart is not a race but rather a relaxed weekend of bikepacking with friends. Riders will start and camp together but are encouraged to ride at their own pace and navigate the route independently. The journey begins and ends in Ranchita\, CA\, at the Ranchita Bodega. \nDay one kicks off with some early climbs through the Ranchita foothills\, followed by a thrilling sandy descent down Grapevine Canyon into the Anza Borrego Desert. Riders will then tackle a paved section with a narrow shoulder\, leading to the scenic Cactus Valley double track. SUMMARY:Intermediate Overnighter to Ironwood w/ Campfire Cycling in Arizona - SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:***If you would like to join this ride\, but it is cost prohibitive to do so or if you need to borrow gear to make it happen\, please reach out directly to Campfire Cycling. \nCampfire Cycling is headed to Ironwood national forest to do the Ironwood loop. Route is 48 miles with 1600 feet of climbing\, but don’t let those numbers fool you\, there is some sand and chonk that make for some nice longish days of riding. \nThis trip does have some challenges to it. The organizers are calling it intermediate level and not advisable as a first time bikepacking trip due to some of the rocky and sandy sections that add a challenge as well as the need to carry most of your water. \nThe terrain is mostly gravel roads with some rough and sandy sections. The organizers recommend a minimum of 50mm tires but bigger tires will get you though the sand easier and add plush to the chunk \nThe group be riding to about mile 22 to camp the first night just before the gate. Camp will be right next Cocoraque Butte (the O’odham name is Shontok) Petroglyph site (1 mile out and bike hike). Plan on carrying about 4-6 litres of water per day\, there are few cow tanks that can be filtered from as well as a potential cache spot a mile 30. \nRead about what to expect here: https://bikepacking.com/routes/ironwood-overnighter/ \nThe ride will be self-supported and the organizers do not have plans for a sag wagon to join us. There is a good place to cache water at the Ironwood National Monument Trailhead (Mile 30). There will not be water at camp however there is water available about mile 6\, 9\, 10\, 12 and 40 in cow troughs you can filter from. The organizers recommend carrying 4 to 6 liters of water per day if you don’t plan on filtering or want to do a cache for the 2nd day. \nOrganizers will be contacting everyone who signs up for the ride to make sure they are prepared for the ride. \nThe group will be parking cars and meeting at the start of the route at the Titan II Missile interpretive site (The beginning and end of the route). Rolling at 9am.

SUMMARY:Gila 100 Bikepack Grand Depart
DESCRIPTION:Formerly the long course of the Antelope Peak Challenge\, it was later turned into it’s own event beginning at Picketpost and finishing at Tiger Mine TH in Oracle. After participation dwindled (this is a super hard single day ride with the fastest riders completing it in 12 hours\, and stragglers finishing in 20+) organizers have decided to experiment with breaking this outstanding stretch of the Arizona National Scenic Trail into 2 big hefty days of riding. Speaking of the AZT\, please consider donating to the AZT Association! \nBeginning in 2025\, though\, this event will be a point-2-point\, 2 day stage event just like the Coconino 250. This means there will be a coordinated campsite at the end of day 1\, roughly mile 64. Of course anyone is welcome to do the full 100-mile event on the Arizona Trail without the camping if they so choose. \nOrganizers will flip the direction every year\, with a 2025 group depart from Tiger Mine\, and finish at Pickepost trailhead in Superior. \nSee website for detailed information. \nRegister\nThis ride is limited to 74 riders. Our primitive/dispersed campsite in Arroyo Tapiado is a favorite of the SoCal bikepacking community. Campers can join Friday evening or Saturday morning. SUMMARY:Bikepack the Suwannee River Trail with Karlos Bernart (SingleTrack Samurai) in Florida
DESCRIPTION:Embark on an exhilarating off-road bicycle tour along the scenic Suwannee River\, immersing yourself in the untamed beauty of nature. \nClick here to join the Group tour. \nThe route utilizes freshly scouted terrain combined with parts of the Florida Divide to complete the loop. This immersive 3-day 2-night journey grants you glimpses into the natural areas and communities that thrive along the Suwannee River. You don’t have to worry about sleeping outside on this 190+ mile journey as we will be staying both nights at Camp Suwannee which offers options for riders to sleep inside one of two bunkhouses. Since the group will stay at the same camp both nights\, riders can ride on Day 2 with just the supplies needed to complete the day ride. Riders will not have to break down their camps on Saturday morning and can leave their tents until they return to sleep in the evening. \nThis year there will be two options for the route. One with as much Singletrack as possible and one utilizing as many dirt roads as possible. Riders can pick and choose and mix and match. Day 2 will also have a shorter option for riders who would enjoy doing three shorter days versus a long 80-mile day in the middle. \nWhether you’re an experienced cyclist seeking a thrilling challenge or a nature enthusiast craving an escape into the wilderness\, this off-road bicycle tour along the Suwannee River promises an unforgettable adventure. SUMMARY:Winter Solstice Pine Grove Loop Overnight with Kurstin Gerard Graham in Nevada
DESCRIPTION:Lets do this! A Winter Solstice Bikepacking overnight in the Pine Grove Hills! The route is a 35 mile loop up to the ghost mining town of Pine Grove. Pine Grove is extremely well preserved and tucked into a dense forest of pinyon pine. The plan is to camp near Pine Grove proper\, 16 miles in\, 2500′ of climbing. The group should have time to explore the site and even beyond. On day 2 the group will return via Garden Canyon\, a new route for the organizer but has been on his list for years! Day 2 numbers are 19 miles\, 2500′ of climbing\, with a net descent. After the trip Kurstin hopes everyone can join in for a post-ride meal at Rosie’s Place in Wellington. The route is rugged jeep trails\, so Kustin recommends mountain bike sized tires. Gravel bikes will be underbiking at times. Plan on colder temperatures\, it tends to be a cold micro-climate.  \nThe start of the route is off NV 338 and Rissue Rd. about 97 miles south of Reno. \nAbout Kurstin Gerard Graham: Author of Bikepacking Northern Nevada and host of regular bikepacking trips in Nevada.

Day 2 is 19.2 miles with 1\,017 ft of gain. \nWe’ll be camping at a semi-primitive campsite with a pit latrine and a semi covered shelter for cooking meals and a fire\, but will be 1.5 miles from the visitors center and main camping area with access to water and restrooms. \nThe atmosphere will be supportive and non-competitive\, with the goal of sharing bikepacking and creating a safe and inclusive opportunity to bikepack. Day one is 24.4 miles with 1\,005 ft of elevation gain and 937 ft of elevation loss.
