Come build your skills so you can go home and create radical change in your local community!  \n*Please recognize this retreat is intended only for FTWNB (femme\, trans\, women\, and non-binary) folks. We appreciate you respecting this space for people who share these identities! If you don’t identify as such but want to support our mission\, you can donate to make tickets more affordable! \nRAR NAR exists to fill your cup\, escape the busy world\, and relax. You’re welcome to choose to go on group rides\, attend workshops\, or just lay alone in a hammock on the waterfront for 4 days straight. That last one actually sounds pretty ideal…  \nWe want you to curate a RAR NAR experience that meets your own needs\, and you know what those needs are best!  \nWe created RAR NAR with the goal of building community around bike liberation and joy\, and that is exactly what we are here for– laughter\, friendships\, and building a sense of camaraderie on bikes with other riders who are trans\, nonbinary\, and/or women. Join us September 18th-21st\, 2026! \n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is part of Bikepacking Root’s Community Event Calendar\, where we share bikepacking events across the US and Canada. The course features some of Vermont’s extremely rugged roads and trails\, and it covers very hilly terrain.\n\nTo register for the 2026 Grand Depart or individual time trial fill out this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSemBHZ_l9j0r3y7br5w_iSOZm_0DSwuR-BoQ5rfp2mVIyt6bQ/viewform \n  \nThis event is part of Bikepacking Root’s Community Event Calendar\, where we share bikepacking events across the US and Canada. Andy and Erin did this route last year in 2½ days and 2 nights. \nTo make this route more enjoyable\, we are suggesting a 9 am departure in McCall on Saturday\, September 26th. We recommend camping or getting accommodations for Friday evening if you are coming from out of town. We will bike for 3 full days and 2 nights. Returning to McCall on Monday afternoon. \nCheck out the route on the Dark Sky Bikepacking website. \nAll of our group rides are non-guided. All people\, all bikes\, all skills are welcome! Having an accurate head count ensures that we can accommodate up to 20 people for group camping. Bike bags are available to borrow through Dark Sky Bikepacking lending library and bikes are available to rent through The Trailhead Bicycles. A week prior to our adventure we will send out an email with a suggested packing list\, weather forecast\, and any updates to our ride plan. We recommend camping or getting accommodations the night before we begin if you are coming from out of town. \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is part of Bikepacking Root’s Community Event Calendar\, where we share bikepacking events across the US and Canada. We are camping halfway up Overlook Mountain\, but get ready because the final 6 miles up to the campsite is around 1000ft of climbing. \nSunday AM we go straight down that hill the steep way on Meads Mountain Rd (not the way we climb). On Sunday the return journey is 32 miles\, 1300ft climbing\, so Day 2 is much less strenuous compared to Saturday’s totals of 36 miles\, 3000ft climbing. \nMeal planning is kept easy with food stops in the town of Woodstock. Helmets and strong brakes required. We will have one night of primitive camping in the public forest preserve at dispersed sites. There are no facilities\, except for 2 portapotties a quarter mile from our campsite. Everyone is responsible for carrying their own shelter and sleep systems that you need to be comfortable and warm. Expect overnight temps below 40f. \nIf you’re new to camping or new to using your bike frame to carry camping equipment\, you can enjoy this trip but just know that it doesn’t have many comforts built in. \nWhat To Expect:\n\nPre-trip group info session by video call\nYour guide will ensure that nobody is left alone with a flat tire or carrying too heavy a load\n1 night of camping at dispersed campsites in a forest preserve with phone service and a short walk from two portapotties\nResupply stops in Woodstock for food\, ice cream\, and water refills\nScenic stops along the way with mountain vistas\, a waterfall\, and hiking trail at Sloan Gorge preserve\nCPR and Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certified guide carrying first aid kit\n\nDetails\nHudson\, NY \n68 miles \n4400ft \n1 night dispersed camping in forest preserve with phone service and shared portapotties a short walk away \nVery hilly \n\nThis event is part of Bikepacking Root’s Community Event Calendar\, where we share bikepacking events across the US and Canada. Please indicate your interest in the order questionnaire. Gear use is first-come\, first-served\, but we strive to accommodate all requests. \nResources\, such as trained guides and bikes for youth with disabilities\, are available. Please contact us if you are interested. \nLodging: We will tent camp at the Camp Sullivan campground; a cabin is available in case of inclement weather. \nPace: 7-10 mph. We won’t leave anyone behind. \nTrail/Route: Paved road or trail with minimal crushed-limestone portions. \nAge: All families are welcome! \nRiders with disabilities: Resources\, such as trained guides and bikes for youth with disabilities\, are available. Please contact us if you are interested. \nTrip Description\nExplore the beauty of our extensive forest preserves in the Southwest Burbs! First\, we will ride through the southside neighborhoods of Brainerd\, Beverly\, and Mt. Greenwood\, then hit the Cal Sag Trail\, and then finish on the forest preserve trails. We will take plenty of breaks along the route\, including a picnic stop\, before arriving at Camp Sullivan. \nBecause our rides celebrate this beautiful corner of the earth we call home\, we acknowledge the many people who have lived here before us\, including the Council of the Three Fires–comprised of the Ojibwe\, Odawa\, and Potawatomi Nations–as well as the Miami\, Ho-Chunk\, Menominee\, Sac\, Fox\, Kickapoo\, and Illinois Nations. OOFD seeks to promote Indigenous perspectives in all we do. This ride is a celebratory expression of this goal. We have much to learn (and unlearn) and hope you will join us on this journey. \nWhat’s Included\n\nCampsite and firewood\nFood: Day 1 dinner\, Day 2 breakfast and lunch\nEducation about our local history and nature\nWelcoming and supportive guides\n\nWhat’s Not Included\n\nFood: Day 1 lunch\nSnacks during the ride to camp\nBowls\, cups\, spoons\, forks – Please bring your own to avoid waste.\n\nAdding a Donation to Your Ticket Price to Support Other Families\nThe majority of the ticket price covers the campsite\, food\, and supplies. OOFD is mostly volunteer-run\, and the guides are all volunteers. Please consider this when checking out. We welcome donations to help keep our ticket prices low and our organization radically inclusive. \nAbout the Guides\nOur guides are part of a community of volunteers that believe in adventure and helping others find adventure right out our front door. They exude a welcoming\, supportive\, and inclusive spirit which are foundational values at OOFD. They have love and appreciation for their home and like sharing knowledge about that home with others\, thus helping the riders to develop a stronger sense of gratitude for our local history and nature. \nThe guides will be set with the route and an extensive script about the area you’ll be riding through with intentionally chosen breakpoints along the way. \nThey are more than someone to follow on the ride. They are trained and will be there to encourage and support you as well as support with mechanicals that may arise. \nTransfer/Refund/Cancellation Policy\nParticipant Cancellation: No Refunds. By registering\, you acknowledge and agree there will not be a refund if you cancel or do not show up for the event. Tickets cannot be resold. \nTransfers: You can transfer three days before the event. You can only transfer to an event in the same calendar year. Fill out this transfer form at least three days before your ride departs\, and we will follow up in a week or less with instructions on how to register for your new event. Contact us if you have any issues. \nOrganizer Cancellation: Full Refund | Nobody wants an event to be canceled. In the rare circumstance the organizer cancels the event at their discretion\, registered participants will receive a full refund. To date\, this organization has canceled minimal events. \nWeather and Rain: We do not cancel an event for rain\, storm\, or any other weather. We ride rain or shine. Chicago weather is typically passing\, if the weather requires\, we will pause the ride and wait in a sheltered space then continue biking. Some of the best views of the lake and greenery on the trails are after a rainstorm. \nRadical Inclusivity and Non-Discrimination Agreement\nThis is included in your registration form. Showing up with a welcoming and inclusive spirit is crucial and expected of everyone that rides with us. \nBike Camping Packing Checklist and Tips\n  \n  \n\nThis event is part of Bikepacking Root’s Community Event Calendar\, where we share bikepacking events across the US and Canada. Routes will be released on August 15th\, and once the information is sent\, no refunds or transfers will be available. Tracking will be provided by Trackleaders\, and it is at that time that riders will choose which route they want to ride. There are only two categories available: solo and team. It is at the time of Trackleaders registration that you would choose the team option if that’s how you decided to tackle the route. \nThere will be a shuttle available; spots are limited to the first 50 folks who register for this option. The shuttle will pick up riders in Flagler Beach on or before 11 am on the 23rd and transport riders to Steinhatchee. The designated parking spot for shuttle riders is approximately 1 mile from the finish line. The price of the shuttle is 140$\, add that ticket option to your cart to secure your spot. Shuttle spots are refundable as long as it’s canceled 3 weeks before the event starts. \n\nSince there is no cut-off time\, riders can choose to ride the route as fast as they want or tour it at their leisure. The goal is to get from one coast to the other\, following the route to 99% adherence. \nPlease share with your friends and join this unique Coast to Coast ride! \nTake Care\, \nKarlos \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is part of Bikepacking Root’s Community Event Calendar\, where we share bikepacking events across the US and Canada.
