SUMMARY:Bikepacking Shake Out Ride to Warm Springs with Trailhead Bicycles & Darksky Bikepacking - Hailey/Ketchum\, Idaho
DESCRIPTION:This campout is hosted by Bikepacking Roots Community Steward Don Keller in partnership with Trailhead Bicycles  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMay 31st to June 1st: Warm Springs Rd. Shake Out\n40 miles \n\n\nWe will meet at 2:45 pm at the Trailhead Bicycles or 4 pm at the Ketchum YMCA to ride together out warm springs road to a group campsite. (Approximately 27 miles from Hailey or 14 from Ketchum YMCA). We will have a campfire and have a cooler of beers to share. \nThis is a shakeout ride for our bikepacking series this summer! \nThis group rides is non-guided. All people\, all bikes\, all skills are welcome! Each event is open to a max of 20 people. The ride is non-guided group overnight bikepacking adventure. All participants need to sign a waiver acknowledging the nature of these trips and plan to be self-sufficient. \nBike bags are available to borrow through Dark Sky Bikepacking lending library and bikes are available to rent through The Trailhead Bicycles. SUMMARY:No Winter Maintenance Bikepacking Rally in Ontario
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_class=”teammateRow”][vc_column width=”1/4″ el_class=”teammateImage”][vc_single_image image=”68610″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” css=”” image_hovers=”false”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″ el_class=”teammateDescription”][vc_row_inner el_class=”TeammateContent”][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text css=””]A 2-day ride on the challenging and adventurous No Winter Maintenance bikepacking route. \nRiders can test out their bikepacking skills\, learn from seasoned veterans\, boost their spring fitness\, and meet new cycling friends. It’s also a good training ground for more ambitious bikepacking adventures such as the BT 700. \nDate: May 31 – June 1\, 2025\nStart/Finish: Mansfield Outdoor Centre\, Ontario \nOvernight parking will be available to participants at the outdoor centre with the purchase of a trail pass. \nOvernight: Group camping will be provided by Bowering Lodge (www.boweringlodge.com). Riders can also choose to book one of their indoor rooms on a first-come\, first-serve basis. This option is best done well in advance as space is very limited. Tent camping can be booked in advance\, through the lodge\, or secured on the day of arrival. \nHaving on-site dinner available at Bowering Lodge is the goal. \nCamping and cabins are also available at the Mansfield Outdoor Centre for before and after the event.There will also be on-site breakfast available before the ride commences and dinner options for after the ride on day two. This is through the MOC Pine River Café. \nThere will be two ride options for riders: the full route which is more challenging\, or a paired-down version of each day which shortens the distance and removes some of the more challenging sections.  Routing will be finalized in advance of the ride. Here are the preliminary routes. \nAs with previous editions\, this year’s NWM ride will also be a Kevin Walsh memorial ride. A local rider who was tragically killed by a hit-and-run driver. Kevin was a great asset to both the NWM and BT 700 bikepacking routes by assisting in finding exciting terrain to add to these trips.  We will also be riding a trail in Kolapore on day one dedicated to his name. \nIf you would like to register for this ride please fill out the form that is linked below. She was hit while riding the bike I built for her specifically to bikepack South America with me. She was my best friend. She was also a trail builder\, chainsaw enthusiast\, climber\, poet\, artist\, and cyclist\, and much more than I can write here. I will never again ride a mile without thinking about her and I will likely dedicate every route I ever create to her. Learn about her here. \nPrice: FREE! (With an optional donation below) \nSchedule \nStart Time: 7:00 AM on Saturday May 31st\, 2025 \nEnd Time: 6:00 PM on Monday\, June 2nd\, 2025 \nParty Location: The ride will conclude on Monday night at Short Story Brewing for drinks and a celebration! \nParking & Meeting Points \nThe ride will start from Cooper’s Rock State Forest. We are being provided secure\, free parking at the Coopers Rock Office lot (39.660728\, -79.780952)\, about half a mile from the main entrance. We will meet here! \nCooper’s Rock offers a wide variety of camping options for those coming from out of town. We recommend staying here before the depart! \nNote: If you do the ride outside of the Grand Depart in June\, you cannot park here. Instead\, we recommend calling Coopers Rock and asking about their “overflow” lot. Otherwise\, you can start the ride from Morgantown\, park at a parking garage\, or choose your own start elsewhere. \nAbout the Ride \nThis ride is as metal as the Hellbender: Starting at the famous Cooper’s Rock State Forest you get to pick from 5 route options that\, combined\, total nearly 950 miles and 100\,000 feet of Appalachian climbing\, with choices of length from 60 to 310 miles. We tried our best\, but an average of 100ft/mile was the best we could do in this mountain country\, making it your own personal version of Hell in every route!\n\nRiders will traverse the Monongahela (Monoga-Hell-Yea!) River Basin\, a richly diverse region in Appalachia and home to the Eastern Hellbender. The Extinction routes explore 3 rivers\, dozens of creeks\, over 15 swim spots (more if you get creative!)\, waterfalls\, and enough Appalachian scenery to make a Hellbender cry.\n\nExplore the 3 states in the West-Mary-Vania region: 11 wild areas and state forests\, 5 local breweries in West Virginia and Maryland\, and visit unique small towns across all on one incredible ride!\n\nThe namesake: The raddest creature in the river\, the Hellbender Salamander (Cryptobranchus alleganiensis) or the snot otter\, lasagna lizard\, devil dog\, mud-devil\, mud dog\, water dog\, grampus\, Allegheny alligator\, and leverian water newt.\n\nStory goes that this bad boy got his name from early European settlers turned hillbillies\, who thought to themselves: \n“This here is a creature from Hell where it is bent on returning!“ \nStill\, others say that when these salt-of-the-earth river folk scooped up the Hellbender from the water for closer inspection\, that merely looking at its skin reminded them of the horrible tortures of the infernal regions. \nWhen thinking of sick Appalachian animals\, how could it possibly get any sicker than that? However\, this lasagna lizard is nosediving straight for extinction. Yep\, turns out all the chemicals\, dams\, and habitat destruction in rivers isn’t great at supporting life. (Who knew?) I will be the first to tell you that the Hellbender is PISSED about that. Hell\, I would be too if all I lived in those rivers. \nSo we figured\, while we bike and boat in the pristine Hellbender habitat of the Monongahela River Basin without a care in the world\, the least we could do is light a fire under our ass too. These damning routes were created to fire you up with pure ecologically righteous rage!
