DESCRIPTION:This campout is hosted by Bikepacking Roots Community Steward Don Keller in partnership with Trailhead Bicycles  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMay 31st to June 1st: Warm Springs Rd. Shake Out\n40 miles \n\n\nWe will meet at 2:45 pm at the Trailhead Bicycles or 4 pm at the Ketchum YMCA to ride together out warm springs road to a group campsite. (Approximately 27 miles from Hailey or 14 from Ketchum YMCA). We will have a campfire and have a cooler of beers to share. \nThis is a shakeout ride for our bikepacking series this summer! \nThis group rides is non-guided. All people\, all bikes\, all skills are welcome! Each event is open to a max of 20 people. The ride is non-guided group overnight bikepacking adventure. All participants need to sign a waiver acknowledging the nature of these trips and plan to be self-sufficient. \nBike bags are available to borrow through Dark Sky Bikepacking lending library and bikes are available to rent through The Trailhead Bicycles. It’s also a good training ground for more ambitious bikepacking adventures such as the BT 700. \nDate: May 31 – June 1\, 2025\nStart/Finish: Mansfield Outdoor Centre\, Ontario \nOvernight parking will be available to participants at the outdoor centre with the purchase of a trail pass. \nOvernight: Group camping will be provided by Bowering Lodge (www.boweringlodge.com). Riders can also choose to book one of their indoor rooms on a first-come\, first-serve basis. This option is best done well in advance as space is very limited. Tent camping can be booked in advance\, through the lodge\, or secured on the day of arrival. \nHaving on-site dinner available at Bowering Lodge is the goal. \nCamping and cabins are also available at the Mansfield Outdoor Centre for before and after the event.There will also be on-site breakfast available before the ride commences and dinner options for after the ride on day two. This is through the MOC Pine River Café. \nThere will be two ride options for riders: the full route which is more challenging\, or a paired-down version of each day which shortens the distance and removes some of the more challenging sections.  Routing will be finalized in advance of the ride. Here are the preliminary routes. \nAs with previous editions\, this year’s NWM ride will also be a Kevin Walsh memorial ride. A local rider who was tragically killed by a hit-and-run driver. Kevin was a great asset to both the NWM and BT 700 bikepacking routes by assisting in finding exciting terrain to add to these trips.  We will also be riding a trail in Kolapore on day one dedicated to his name. \nIf you would like to register for this ride please fill out the form that is linked below. She was hit while riding the bike I built for her specifically to bikepack South America with me. She was my best friend. She was also a trail builder\, chainsaw enthusiast\, climber\, poet\, artist\, and cyclist\, and much more than I can write here. We are being provided secure\, free parking at the Coopers Rock Office lot (39.660728\, -79.780952)\, about half a mile from the main entrance. We will meet here! \nCooper’s Rock offers a wide variety of camping options for those coming from out of town. We recommend staying here before the depart! \nNote: If you do the ride outside of the Grand Depart in June\, you cannot park here. Instead\, we recommend calling Coopers Rock and asking about their “overflow” lot. Otherwise\, you can start the ride from Morgantown\, park at a parking garage\, or choose your own start elsewhere. \nAbout the Ride \nThis ride is as metal as the Hellbender: Starting at the famous Cooper’s Rock State Forest you get to pick from 5 route options that\, combined\, total nearly 950 miles and 100\,000 feet of Appalachian climbing\, with choices of length from 60 to 310 miles. We tried our best\, but an average of 100ft/mile was the best we could do in this mountain country\, making it your own personal version of Hell in every route!\n\nRiders will traverse the Monongahela (Monoga-Hell-Yea!) River Basin\, a richly diverse region in Appalachia and home to the Eastern Hellbender. The Extinction routes explore 3 rivers\, dozens of creeks\, over 15 swim spots (more if you get creative!)\, waterfalls\, and enough Appalachian scenery to make a Hellbender cry.\n\nExplore the 3 states in the West-Mary-Vania region: 11 wild areas and state forests\, 5 local breweries in West Virginia and Maryland\, and visit unique small towns across all on one incredible ride!\n\nThe namesake: The raddest creature in the river\, the Hellbender Salamander (Cryptobranchus alleganiensis) or the snot otter\, lasagna lizard\, devil dog\, mud-devil\, mud dog\, water dog\, grampus\, Allegheny alligator\, and leverian water newt.\n\nStory goes that this bad boy got his name from early European settlers turned hillbillies\, who thought to themselves: \n“This here is a creature from Hell where it is bent on returning!“ \nStill\, others say that when these salt-of-the-earth river folk scooped up the Hellbender from the water for closer inspection\, that merely looking at its skin reminded them of the horrible tortures of the infernal regions. \nWhen thinking of sick Appalachian animals\, how could it possibly get any sicker than that? However\, this lasagna lizard is nosediving straight for extinction. Yep\, turns out all the chemicals\, dams\, and habitat destruction in rivers isn’t great at supporting life. (Who knew?) I will be the first to tell you that the Hellbender is PISSED about that. Hell\, I would be too if all I lived in those rivers. \nSo we figured\, while we bike and boat in the pristine Hellbender habitat of the Monongahela River Basin without a care in the world\, the least we could do is light a fire under our ass too. These damning routes were created to fire you up with pure ecologically righteous rage! As the group travels from the heart of Chicago to Indiana Dunes State Park and back\, they will learn about the history of steel manufacturing\, the regional nature\, bridges\, beaches and dunes. \nThe Lake Michigan shoreline of Southern Chicago and Northwestern Indiana reveal the marks of a century-long conflict over land use in the region. Sand dunes\, steel mills\, power lines\, marshland\, and a commercial harbor battled for and shared a ten-mile stretch along the lakeshore. The group will learn about the struggle for a National Park and discover the birthplace of ecology\, the rise of steel manufacturing\, and the geological forces that shaped this land. \nLet’s travel back in time to the 1893’s World’s Fair as we cruise along Chicago’s world-class museum campuses\, Daniel Burnham Park \, Jackson Park and the beginnings of green spaces in Chicago. We’ll be traveling along lightly used\, unpaved forest service roads deep in the San Gabriel Mountains—a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life\, all without venturing too far from home. \n🌼Last year\, our campouts filled up quickly and had long waitlists. To create a more accessible registration process\, we’re introducing a lottery system. This will give more folks a chance to attend and help ensure that spots are distributed more equitably. \n🎟️To enter into the lottery for the June trip\, please fill out the registration form linked in our bio. Registration for this trip will be open from 5-5 to 5-10. \n🐺 We give this route our Wolf (classic route) rating because of the elevation\, sustained climbs\, and some short\, punchy grades right before camp that may require some hike-a-bike. \n🦎 This route gets our Lizard (dirt & gravel) terrain rating. The unpaved surfaces range from hard-packed\, gravel\, sand\, and some larger but avoidable rocks. They are semi-maintained dirt roads. The route is 77% dirt. A gravel\, atb\, rigid mtb\, or touring bike with dirt tires 40mm or larger is ideal. \n🌻All riders are responsible for themselves and their decisions. This is a guided bike camping trip with ride leads and sweeps\, but there is no sag or outside vehicle support on this ride. \n💸We are asking for a sliding scale donation of $15- $30 for this trip. It’s a shorter\, less demanding version of what you’ll be doing\, designed to:\n1. Test your gear: This is the big one. You get to load up your bike with (ideally) everything you plan to bring on your trip and actually ride with it. This helps you identify any comfort issues with your pack setup\, discover if anything rattles or rubs\, and ensure all your bags are securely attached.\n2. Dial in your bike: You can check if your saddle height is right for longer days\, make sure your brakes are working well under load\, and confirm your gears are shifting smoothly.\n3. Assess your physical readiness: While it won’t replicate four full days of riding\, it gives you a sense of how your body feels with the extra weight and helps you identify any potential hot spots or areas of discomfort early.\n4. Practice your systems: The group will be setting up our tents at City Park Jazz and enjoying the show. Here you can test stoves and other gear.\n5. Build confidence: Knowing that your gear and body can handle a shorter version of the trip can ease any pre-trip jitters. \nIdeally\, the shakeout ride should involve carrying your full load (or as close as possible): Even though the group won’t actually be camping\, load your bags with the weight you expect to carry. Each campout will be in a different location and somewhere along or close to the Stagecoach 400 route. \nThis year\, the group is once again staying in Mount Laguna at the Wooded Hill Group Camp. Organizers have the group site reserved for Sunday thru Tuesday \nCampground amenities include:\nBathrooms\nPotable Water\nFor coin showers\, you will have to go a couple of miles down Sunrise HWY to Burnt Rancheria Campground \nThe Mount Laguna Store is just a few miles from the campground with firewood and snacks (closes at 5 pm)\, and please do not park your bikes on the porch (the owner hates that). \nGetting to camp and ride options….. \nDriving:\nThis is a great option if you just want to hang out for camping\, join in on the day rides\, or simply relax in the beauty of the mountains. Check in for Wooded Hill is 2 pm\, and that’s when we are getting there. Since we have the group camp this year\, parking is not a problem. We are planning to then ride out to the meadow to try and meet one of or both groups riding in. There are beautiful views of the Coastal Mountains and the Harbour City. On the island of Saysutshun there are opportunities for hiking and biking on many trails\, and beaches to explore and take a refreshing swim from. This trip is a first for us and we are stoked to check out a new spot and all that it offers. \nFor the ride itself\, you are welcome to join us for a casual pace\, guided effort. SUMMARY:2025 Swift Campout with Quin & Max in Ft. Collins\, Colorado

As long as you’re a relatively strong rider you should have no issues getting to camp. This route is an out and back\, so in the morning you will have plenty of descending to look forward to. Our plan is to leave early and have tons of stops for snacks\, drinks\, swimming\, and other things of that nature. We will not be holding a crazy pace\, but note a lot of the climbing comes at the end of the day\, so just be prepared for that.  \nThis is a fully self supported route\, we will be stashing some beers at camp the day before\, but there is no major food stops after Masonville. Carry what you need. If you have a water filter there will be multiple opportunities to fill up\, if not\, bring lots of bottles.  \nThere is a fill station right across from the campsite\, but not so much along the route.  \nRoute \nDistance 75 miles round trip \nTerrain Mixed Gravel & Pavement \nDifficulty Level Moderate – For active individuals who are ready to ride for a full day. They’ll be tuning in and sharing their bikepacking rigs\, walking us through their favorite gear\, and in some special cases\, inviting you along on their public campout. I grew up riding bikes\, and I’m still doing it. I now manage Road 34 bike shop here in Fort Collins\, CO\, while also making online content about bikes to last a lifetime. My main goal is to get people stoked on riding bikes\, no matter the skill level\, how you identify\, or how much money you have to throw at it. Bikes are rad\, especially with friends. Go pick up an old bike and beat the shit out of it. 110% the most fun you’ll have on two wheels. \nQ- My name is Quin! I grew up in Santa Fe\, New Mexico\, and moved to Fort Collins to get my Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. Since moving to Fort Collins\, I have had the opportunity to become more involved in the cycling community through local group rides\, and it has sparked my love for cycling! My goals are to continue to explore the community I have found through the world of biking- and to have fun doing it! \nQuin and Max on Swift Campout \nWe think that the Swift Campout is all about having fun with friends. Whether you’re crushing 100-mile days or just riding across town to your local spot\, it’s always better to share the ride with someone. Swift Campout is the perfect opportunity to expand your horizons on your bike and experience new adventures with like-minded friends and strangers. \nAbout the route: \nIt’s 36 miles\, with some decent elevation gain\, and a good bit of gravel at the end. As long as you’re a relatively strong rider\, you should have no issues getting to camp. This route is an out-and-back\, so in the morning\, you will have plenty of descending to look forward to. Our plan is to leave early and have tons of stops for snacks\, drinks\, swimming\, and other things of that nature. We will not be holding a crazy pace\, but note that a lot of the climbing comes at the end of the day\, so just be prepared for that. This is a fully self-supported route; we will be stashing some beers at camp the day before\, but there are no major food stops after Masonville. Carry what you need. If you have a water filter\, there will be multiple opportunities to fill up; if not\, bring lots of bottles. There is a fill station right across from the campsite\, but not so much along the route.
