We have resources including trained guides and bikes to loan for youth with disabilities. If you are interested in this option\, please contact us here. \nLodging: We will stay at Camp Blackwell campground located in West Chicago\, IL (map) in tents. \nPace: 7-10mph. If you are interested in this option\, please contact us here. \nTrip Description\nHead west on North America’s first successful rails-to-trails conversion\, the Illinois Prairie Path\, to DuPage County. At twenty-seven miles from Oak Park\, this is an accessible low-stress ride\, suitable for beginners and experienced riders. The route is almost entirely on the off-street crushed limestone Illinois Prairie Path (IPP) and Great Western Trail with some street riding to get to the path and street crossings. \nBlackwell Forest Preserve features biking and walking trails\, fishing\, and over 1\,000 species of native plants and animals. The terrain is made up of oak savannas\, prairies\, grasslands\, and wetlands. Day 2 has a water park option at Wheaton’s Aquatic Center (8 miles from the campground). \nWhat’s Included\n\nCampsite and firewood\nDay 1 dinner\, Day 2 breakfast\, lunch\, and dinner. Day 3 breakfast and lunch\nEducation about our local history and nature\nVery welcoming and supportive guides\n\nWhat’s Not Included\n\nFood for Day 1: lunch (please bring a sacked lunch! They are trained and will be there to encourage and support you as well as support with mechanicals that may arise. \nTransfer/Refund/Cancellation Policy\nParticipant Cancellation: No Refunds. By registering\, you acknowledge and agree there will not be a refund if you cancel or do not show up for the event. Tickets cannot be resold. \nTransfers: You can transfer three days before the event. You can only transfer to an event in the same calendar year. Fill out this transfer form at least three days before your ride departs\, and we will follow up in a week or less with instructions on how to register for your new event. Contact us if you have any issues. \nOrganizer Cancellation: Full Refund | Nobody wants an event to be canceled. In the rare circumstance the organizer cancels the event at their discretion\, registered participants will receive a full refund. To date\, this organization has canceled minimal events. \nWeather and Rain: We do not cancel an event for rain\, storm\, or any other weather. We ride rain or shine. Chicago weather is typically passing\, if the weather requires\, we will pause the ride and wait in a sheltered space then continue biking. SUMMARY:Donner Bike Camping Overnighter with Truckee Bikepacking Collective

Truckee/Donner area is BEAUTIFUL\, and riding through the old train tunnels is FUN!\nThe Details: Park at the Safeway in Truckee CA. We roll out at 10am sharp\, then promptly open a magic portal to a beautiful dirty stinky world where time and capitalism no longer exist.\nThis was originally a @truckeebikepackingcollective route that @calliesunshinee then tweaked\, and holy smokes it’s a good one\, with some mellow singletrack\, a couple beautiful little lakes\, an amazing campsite in the shadow of Devil’s Peak\, and the longest abandoned railroad tunnels I’ve ever ridden through! This ride starts with a kicker of a climb\, but only totals 40 miles and +3353 feet of climbing over Saturday and Sunday. \nThis will be self-supported dispersed camping near Cascade Lakes (6700ft elevation)\, following LNT principles\, so bring: food\, sleep system\, a water filter\, a bike light for the tunnels\, and a way to bury your own poop (trowel). As always\, this is a casual open-invite trip. No sag\, and no registration or money is required\, but we’ll try to make sure nobody is left behind or stranded. We all wear helmets and ask that you do as well. \nThese rides are at a conversational pace\, and we stick together. If you want to KOM your Strava or impress people by being first up the climb\, don’t bother coming\, as the best of the party is at the back of the pack. \nThe route link is in my bio. Be sure to download it in one form or another for offline navigation before the trip\, as cell service can be nonexistent in this area\, and if something unforeseen happens\, we want you to be able to navigate back to your vehicle safely. This summer\, TripOutside and local Durango bikepacker Sam Lewandowski are hosting a four-part workshop series designed to give new and aspiring bikepackers everything they need to get out there with confidence. \nEach workshop tackles a different set of essential bikepacking skills — from fixing a broken chain in the backcountry to planning your own route from scratch. Sessions are hosted at some of Durango’s best local bike and outdoor shops\, keeping groups small (15 or fewer participants) for direct\, hands-on learning. It is one of Illinois’ ​most beautiful destinations. The park’s 18 canyons feature vertical walls of moss-covered stone and multiple waterfalls. Formed by glacial melt water that slices dramatically through tree-covered sandstone bluffs\, the Illinois River bluffs in Utica\, Illinois will surely percolate anyone’s curiosity. \nWe will learn about the world’s first major natural waterway reversal in human history as we traverse along the Chicago River\, from the heart of Chicago to the Illinois and Michigan Canal. Cold air starts to sweep across the land when we go back in time to relive a catastrophic flood that occurred between 14\,000 and 18\,000 years ago in the Midwestern United States and reshaped the land. On our off day from biking\, we’ll host a guided hike through the park \nThis is not your average group bike ride. At each break point and along the way\, our guides will immerse and educate in the history\, geography\, architecture and the uniquely beautiful natural habitats and ecosystems of North Eastern Illinois. This route is best for bikes that can have tires over 45mm. This includes hardtail mountain bikes\, rigid gravel bikes etc. The terrain we will be riding on will be mostly dirt and the surface can vary so having tires over 45mm is recommended. We don’t recommend a road bike with small tires.\nA helmet. Bikepacking Roots (and their insurance policy) requires riders to wear a helmet when riding their bikes during this event.\nClothing\, repair tools\, equipment\, food and water to ride self-sufficiently along the route.\nOvernight gear and food for one night of camping. This can be packed on your bike or carried in a camp vehicle.\nUse this recommended gear list.\n\nWEATHER: \n\nBe prepared for all kinds of weather\, including daytime temperatures (Fahrenheit) up to the high 80’s\, nighttime temperatures in the 40’s. Rain\, wind\, and thunderstorms are also a possibility. Sunscreen or sun protection is also advisable.\n\nFOOD: \n\nPlease arrive prepared with the food you need for the event\, including meals to prepare at camp. You’re welcome to team up with others to cook in small groups!\nYou’ll need 2 days worth of ride food\, 2 lunch(es)\, 2 dinner(s)\, and 2 breakfast(s).\nWe recommend you carry at least 2 liters of water capacity. There are ample water sources on the route. Bring water purification if you plan to get water from any rivers or streams!\nResupply: The Trailhouse is just a couple of miles from the town of Poultney which has grocery stores and convenience shops.\n\nPlease note: \n\nThe beginner option will have folks parking on site at the Trailhouse\, with a ~25 mile bike ride on Sunday\, and a ~20 mile ride on Monday.\nThe intermediate ride will have folks park at the Castleton Park and Ride and ride the ~10 miles to the Trailhouse that Saturday. We will allow 1 school-size backpack to be carried in our support vehicle to lighten your load. \nTransportation to start point: There are limited bike spots on the Amtrak trains to Milwaukee so be sure to book your roundtrip asap if you want to take the train. There is also a gated parking lot next to the Intermodal station that is not very expensive. 4 day pass is around $35. \nPace: 12-15mph \nAge: Adult Ride (21+) \nTrip Description\nJoin us for this delightful ride through beautiful Southeast Wisconsin\, and get to know a couple of the state’s most cherished state parks\, Kettle Moraine and Kohler-Andrae. Also\, you will get to know Wisconsin’s famous rolling hills which will add extra challenge to this ride. We will roll through charming small towns and explore some of the natural beauty of the region. We’ll even have a full day off to hike around Kohler-Andrae\, enjoy the beach and trails\, as well as go on optional bike rides to dig into the area a bit more deeply. And of course\, your guides will help deepen your appreciation of the area with spiels about the local nature and history. What is a drumlin you ask? They have love and appreciation for their home and like sharing knowledge about that home with others\, thus helping the riders to develop a stronger sense of gratitude for our local history and nature. \nThe guides will be set with the route and an extensive script about the area you’ll be riding through with intentionally chosen breakpoints along the way. \nThey are more than someone to follow on the ride. They are trained and will be there to encourage and support you as well as support with mechanicals that may arise. \nTransfer/Refund/Cancellation Policy\nParticipant Cancellation: No Refunds. By registering\, you acknowledge and agree there will not be a refund if you cancel or do not show up for the event. Tickets cannot be resold. \nTransfers: You can transfer three days before the event. You can only transfer to an event in the same calendar year. Fill out this transfer form at least three days before your ride departs\, and we will follow up in a week or less with instructions on how to register for your new event. Contact us if you have any issues. \nOrganizer Cancellation: Full Refund | Nobody wants an event to be canceled. All courses begin and end in Pennsylvania’s Endless Mountains\, along the beautiful Susquehanna River’s North Branch. \nThere are three distances to choose from\, and you can race the Grand Depart or ride at a slower\, touring pace. Exact routes will be confirmed closer to the event. For a qualifying time\, racers must ride the entire course\, can purchase supplies from local businesses along the way during public open hours\, and can camp or stay in hotels that are publicly available to all participants. Private support is not allowed. \nRiders will register for a satellite tracker on the Follow My Challenge platform ($30 with a personal device\, $80 if renting a tracker). The public will be able to follow rider progress along the routes via an online tracking map.
