Camp WS opens at 2:00pm on 5/10
Ride starts in downtown Cloudcroft on 5/11
Camp WS closes at 10:00 am on 5/14

We’ll be using a similar route to last year, except for a minor change at the start and possibly a small reroute around the village of Weed. Route is available @bikepackingroots under the name Rollin & Tumblin. Most folks will prefer to spend 2 nights out and finish the 140-mile route sometime on day 3. It’s certainly possible to go faster or slower. The organizers will offer a shorter route option as well.

There’s no prizes, no race numbers, no glory to be won. WS 140 is a friendly bike tour in the Sacramento Mountains. The goals are to have fun, make friends, leave no trace, be generous and courteous visitors in all the mountain towns, and enjoy the outdoors.

The route is 86% gravel, fur real. There’s a bit of pavement near the three resupply points (Mayhill, Weed, and High Rolls) and a few bumpy forest roads/singletrack to keep it interesting. Essentially it’s climb, descend, repeat. Don’t expect much flat ground. Ideal terrain for riding one good gear. Please remember that just because we use the word gravel, it’s still New Mexico so don’t hesitate to ride yer mountain bike. 45mm tires or bigger seem to be suitable with 2.2-2.4 being the sweet spot for most folks.
