DESCRIPTION:
We’ll ride 21 miles of paved roads meandering through the Trumansburg area, Finger Lakes farm countryside, and creeks and waterfalls that empty into Taughannock.
At mile 10 we’ll stop in the town of Trumansburg for a water/snack/coffee/drink break (Gimme! Coffee + Main Street Market are great options), then ride 4 more miles until we reach Rabbit Run, a stunning local swimming spot with waterfalls and flat rocks for sunbathing and relaxing. We’ll decide as a group how much time to spend at each spot! We could grab to-go lunch in Tburg then picnic at Rabbit Run, possibly??
There’s also an optional stop to pick strawberries at Silver Queen Farm — this is a gorgeous spot with the biggest strawberry U-pick in the state featuring multiple varieties with different flavors. If we feel like a quick stop here to grab berries, it’ll be at mile 2.
While there are some hills, this route is positioned to have a low amount of climbing for this region (+1000′ over 21 miles, versus average of 2000’+ over the same distance in most areas.) The route can be accessed by downtown Ithaca via the Black Diamond rail trail, which adds on about 8 miles of riding on a stone dust path each way.
