Perseids Meteor Shower Campout with FBRHR in Black Rock Desert, NV

This bikepacking overnight event coincides with Friends of Black Rock High Rock’s Annual Perseids Meteor Shower Campout. The adventure begins with an easy 7-mile ride on the playa to “Perseids Cove” from 12 Mile Access, following the route found here.

Once at camp, attendees will enjoy communing with like-minded desert enthusiasts and partaking in various festivities. Highlights include night and sunrise rides across the playa, star talks, and telescope viewing provided by Fleischmann Planetarium. There will also be a raffle featuring a telescope and more exciting prizes. Additionally, participants can engage in a volunteer stewardship project to give back to the community.

Camping in the extreme desert environment poses a unique challenge, but FBRHR ensures a great camp experience. While there are options for driving in and car camping, participants are encouraged to join the bike rides for a full experience. One of the event’s highlights is the Members Dinner, held to thank volunteers and members, so attendees should ensure their membership is up to date. A fun activity is hunting for scorpions with a black light, adding an adventurous twist to the event.
