Bikepacking Trip to Palmetto State Park with Andrea and RAR.Austin

$10π Join Andrea and RAR.Austin for a 2 night bikepacking trip on Friday Jan 19th to Sun Jan 21st to Palmetto State Park! [For riders from Austin only, there will also be a group leaving town Sat Jan 20 and returning Sun Jan 21 for a single night trip!] This is an intermediate level trip focused on community building, knowledge/ skill sharing, and creating space for women, trans and gender-expansive riders. This is a self-supported, intermediate level trip due to the distance and temperatures in January. βΌοΈSpace is limited to 12 people from each area (San Antonio and Austin) to ensure a fun and safe experience. Once capacity is filled, additional signees will be added to the waitlist. The ride organizers follow up via email with more details once capacity is filled.
π« Who this trip is for: This trip is reserved for women, trans, and gender expansive riders with some previous bike packing experience or confident beginner.

ποΈ Time: Friday, January 19th – Sunday, January 21st. Details for San Antonio and Austin emailed to participants.
π³ San Antonio Route: Primarily biking on paved roads and some gravel (can omit if needed). One way is 70 miles, 1,709 ft elevation. This will be a no drop ride, but there may be points where riders are spread out, the group will stick together and regroup.
π³ Austin Route: Primarily biking on paved roads and some gravel. One way is 75 miles, 2,500 ft elevation from the southeast part of town. This will be a no drop ride, but there may be points where riders are spread out. The group will stop before major turns and highway crossings and regroup.
π² Bike: Touring bike, gravel, or cross bike is recommended. With possible cooler temperatures, it may be more difficult to fit everything on a road bike. Carrying extra tubes is required. Someone will know how to change a tire if help is needed. This is a self-supported ride with no organized SAG vehicle. Please arrange your own plan B if the trip does not go according to plan.
π Gear: Sleeping system (shelter, sleeping bag, pad), cooking gear, clothing for riding, lounging, and sleeping. Bike lights, bike repair items, bike snacks. If you need to borrow camping and or cycling gear, fill that out on the survey.
π§ Food & Water, San Antonio: There will be a stop in Seguin for lunch, it is recommended to bring 2 dinners, 2 breakfasts, snacks, and a lunch for Saturday. Buc-ees is very close to the park and likely a trip to Luling on Saturday for lunch. There is water at camp and along the route.
π§ Food & Water, Austin: There will be a stop in Lockhart for lunch. For those riding out Friday, the ride organizers recommend bringing 2 dinners, 2 breakfasts, snacks, and a lunch for Saturday. Buc-ees is very close to the park, and folks will likely make a trip to Luling on Saturday for lunch. For those riding out Saturday, the ride organizers recommend bringing 1 dinner, 1 breakfast, snacks, and a lunch if not intending to buy lunch in Lockhart. There is water at camp and along the route.
ποΈ Camping: Group site at Palmetto SP. There are showers, restrooms, water, and firewood. No electricity at the group site.
β οΈ Weather: Prep for cooler temperatures. The ride organizers will keep an eye on the weather and discuss it at the Q&A Session.
