Flock off the Block | Sullivan Woods Party in August with Out Our Front Door out of Chicago, IL

A 2-Day Bike Camping Adventure from Chicago to Camp Sullivan Woods

Pace: Casual10-12 mph. Beginner level. There will be multiple starting points – the pace may vary depending on which group you join.
Trail/Route: Paved road with minimal gravel incorporated.
Lodging: Tent or cabin bed (camping gear not provided). The group will stay at Camp Sullivan (Cook County Forest Preserve).
Support: Semi supported – a van is available to carry your gear at no additional cost. Requires dropping your gear off the night before.
Meals: Dinner Day 1 and Breakfast Day 2 included

Transportation: The starting point will be accessible by Metra, CTA green line, and car. Street parking is available.

Come Flock Off the Block and join one of OOFD’s biggest rides ever! Organizers rented the majority of Camp Sullivan.
If you’d like to use the support vehicle, there will have a designated meetup on Friday night prior to the event at a designated location. Details for this venue will be updated as organizers learn more from partners. You certainly are welcome to haul your own gear on your bike as well.
This is a family friendly party, and the first time combining the Adult and Family Programs in one overnight bike camping trip – come help make it a great one!
Out Our Front Door will have four starting points in the city with very short to longer mileage options.
$100 for adults. $50 for kids.
ITINERARY (start locations tbd)
North Side – 40ish miles
Central – 30ish miles
West Side – 35ish miles
South Side – 25ish miles
Saturday Activities
Saturday is all about enjoying the day and the ride. There will be varying options for you to participate in. More details will be announced as organizers work with partners on the Saturday itinerary.
Upon arrival in the campground, there will be time to settle in, and OOFD guides are happy to help you set up camp if you need a hand. You can check out the nearby hiking trails. And in true OOFD style – you can always kick back and simply enjoy the park and company.
Dinner and beverages will be provided, followed by a bonfire.
Sunday Activities and Return
Sunday the group will wake up easy, enjoy a morning campfire while OOFD will provide a camping breakfast and coffee.
There will be varying options for your return. These details will be announced as organizers learn more from our partners and sponsors. This ride typically supports a partial Metra Train return to the City.
*Any gear Out Our Front Door hauls for you in the van will be returned to the same location you dropped it off at on Friday night.
Camp Sullivan
The facilities at Camp Sullivan are excellent. The campground features a fire pit, picnic tables, full-service bathrooms with showers, dining pavilions with electrical outlets for device charging, and camp store with concessions.
Campsites and Cabins
Organizers have some cabins reserved with bunk beds in each cabin. You can register for a cabin bed if you prefer to sleep off the ground and not pack your own tent. No extra cost is required for the cabin, and it is first come first served.

WHAT TO BRING
Required Items:
- Your bike!
- Helmet – encouraged but not required
- Tent/Camping Gear
- Head Lamp
- Cash/Debit/Credit Card for your food and your drinks
- Photo I.D. and Emergency contact Info
- Two spare inner tubes and tools to replace a flat if not around a guide
- At least 2 water bottles
- Bike lights, front and rear
- Lock for your bike
- High Energy Snacks
- Change of clothes and be sure to include a swimsuit and/or rain gear!
- Phone battery pack
- Camp mug, plate/bowl, eating utensils
- Welcoming, adventurous, can-do attitude
